Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.

Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Where has the term gone?
Thank you very much for all the support you have given us since starting our school year. We also have so many exciting plans for next term, Thanks to Sue Cranney and Adele, who have been working on an amazing Readathon project together. As a school, we believe that instilling a love of reading gives every child a head start on expanding their vocabulary and knowledge. Reading also helps our children to make sense of the world around them while building social, emotional, and imaginative skills.
Palm Sunday during assembly - Thank you to Room 7 for their dramatic portrayal of Palm Sunday, which helped us understand the final week of Jesus' life.
The students gathered together into our four house groups and completed an amazing visual outlining our school values.
Seniors Camp - Special thanks to Julius, Anna, Hannah, and all our amazing parent helpers who supported our students with an amazing outdoor experience. The camp was fabulous we are so lucky to have such a great facility close to our school that is reasonably priced and has great activities and good food. Having a camp at this time of the year helps to extend friendships while encouraging socialisation skills as students are pushed out of their comfort zone.
Thank you to our school community who have been so supportive of camp fundraising activities.

Easter Liturgy - Tomorrow, you are welcome to join us for the Easter Liturgy tomorrow at 9:30am in St Mary's College Hall. You are welcome to join us. Please note that there will be limited parking on the Sacred Heart Cathedral School courts. Please be informed that there is no parking at St Mary's College.
Please take note of the following dates for NO CLASSES during the Easter holidays:
- Good Friday - 29th March
- Easter Monday - 1st April
- Easter Tuesday - 2nd April
Here is a beautiful poem about Lent that Jackson has written - stunning language Jackson. Thank you for letting me share this with our school community.

Camp Review
By Jack T. (Room 8)
Hi! I’m Jack and today I'm going to talk about camp.
We went to Camp Kaitoke, a camp in the bush surrounded by farms filled with sheep and cows.
Now, what you really want to hear the activities, we had Outdoor Cooking, Rock Climbing, Archery, Kayaking, Orienteering and Giant swing, probably my favorite activity partly because of my own experience, partly the teachers and parents. They were the laughing stock of the kids whooshing through the air singing a melody of screams. My favorite was Ms. Ryan (My mum) as she couldn’t even open her eyes on the way up.
Finally my favorite part… The food! It was surprisingly good compared to my other camps. We got nachos, roast, wraps, sausage and bread and toast and cereal for breakfast. My favorite being the roast as the potatoes were so crispy they were practically chips.
I have a few tips for anyone else going to camp in the future: Don’t overpack, bring a camera if you're allowed to, bring snacks such as Skittles (Don’t tell Mr Sah) and get to sleep better than my cabin did.
Overall, it was a great camp excluding the smell of deodorant in my room and I’d give it a 4.5/5 stars. Why is it not a 5? Because I wish I could've been there for longer.
Tips and Tricks from Bernadette for Developing A Good Digital Citizen
A good digital citizen is careful about what information they share.
They are also conscious of their digital footprint.
A good digital citizen respects others by making sure they don't share other people's information without asking.
A really good question for children to ask themselves is "Am I ok?"
For example, "Am I ok with this being on the internet forever?" and "Am I ok with people other than my friends seeing this?"
A good digital citizen understands how their actions can affect others.
Our new curriculum is very strong in its framework of understand, know and do. This can be applied in the cyber world.
Congratulations to the children in Room 5 who received their Holy Reconciliation over the weekend:
- Ayana
- Shenaya
- Micah
- Naomi
- Richard Leo

We encourage you to support your child to help those in need by having them earn a canned food item at home as we get to close the Lenten Season. A good deed will earn your child a can. The cans that we collect will go to our parish and then be distritributed to those who need it most. Tomorrow, Holy Thursday (28th March) is the last day for collection.
To the families who have already donated their earn-a-can to the school, we are very grateful. We sincerely appreciate your generousity and support.

SUMMER FOOTBALL:
A tough fought game! Sacred Heart Strikers took the lead but ended up losing 1-2 vs Kelburn Cosmic. Some great sportsmanship shown as well, checking on the opposition to see if they were ok after a tackle. Player of the Day was Charles (Room 7) for awesome all round play. What a season - well done everyone and thanks to Suzanne for all the organising!
Sacred Heart Junior Strikers vs Northland Gems lost 1-2.
The team played so well in their final game of the season, and it was really close game. An awesome goal from Xander (Room 2). Player of the Day was Owen (Room 3) for absolute perseverance in the face of adversity. Also, a correction to last week where Dougal (Room 2) was supposed to be Player of the Day for his awesome Goalie moves. Overall, the team had a tough season after being graded with older teams, but the determination, heart and growing ball skills that the team showed over the whole season did us all proud.
A pic of the team attached – Landon (Room 5), Owen (Room 3), Dougal (Room 2), Fintan (Room 5), Xander (Room 2), Sophia (Room 5), Joaquin (Room 5 – backrow), Marrick (Room 5) and Diego (Room 1) not pictured.

Kotahitanga Day on Monday (April 8th)
On Monday, 8th April, we will be holding Kotahitanga Day. We are encouraging students to wear something that represents their culture.
As part of the cultural celebrations, each syndicate will hold a shared morning tea. Students are asked to bring a morning tea item from a culture of significance to them. We have several students with nut allergies across the school, so please avoid using nuts in the items shared.
Please note - if your child has food allergies, we ask that you send them with an item they can eat as well. We will ask students to eat only these items.
