Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update From Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
As a school we thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the Homecoming with the opening of the Cathedral. Each event was stunning and deeply spiritual. A highlight on the feast of the Sacred Heart was Father Patrick taking us all into the Cathedral and explaining the renovation to us all. Thank you to everyone who supported and represented our school throughout the weekend. Thank you to Suzanne our presiding member - Charles, Jack, Noah, and Dishan and all whānau and staff who came on Sunday.

Congratulations Madeleine (Room 7) - who delivered the match ball on a very cold wintery day for the Hurricanes. I think Madeleine, you touching the ball was good luck for the Hurricanes. Well done, Madeleine, for receiving this fabulous spot prize for our Readathon. I know you will be cheering for the Hurricanes this Saturday in the semi final.

We are happy to celebrate today, the Philippine Independence Day! The Philippines commemorates the declaration of Philippine independence from Spain in 1898. Since 1978, it has been the country's National Day.
It was lovely to see Room 6 learning about plotting direction using the sun today.
Have a great week and please reach out if you have any concerns.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Sacred Heart Cathedral School
We have recently received a very positive review from the Archdiocese over the next few weeks I will unpack it. What is wonderful about being reviewed is that you can embrace the positives and work on getting better.
I am so proud of the following statement and wish to acknowledge Sue Cranney, Whaea Rangimoeroa, Odette and Caleb from our Board, our magnificent Whānau group, Board, students and staff.
"The school is to be congratulated and affirmed for its ongoing commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi since the last review. By actively engaging with Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles, honouring Māori culture and heritage, and fostering genuine partnerships with Māori communities, the Board at Sacred Heart Cathedral School ensures that the school reflects New Zealand's bicultural identity and contributes to the well-being and success of all ākonga."
" Sacred Heart Cathedral School has ensured that the Catholic character remains at the heart of its learning and relationships. The development of the school’s local curriculum, including the area’s local Catholic and Māori history, the emphasis on the authentic integration of tikanga Māori into the life of the school, and the pastoral care led by the Principal, witness to the Catholic character as its priority."

Yesterday, the Junior Syndicate visited Te Papa, Te Wharewaka and Frank Kitt Park as part of their inquiry topic for Term 2. We were very blessed with amazing weather and a large number of amazing parents who helped. Many thanks for your time and support. We greatly appreciated it!

84% of students were in class from 4th June to 7th June.
Please ensure that your child is at school every day unless they are sick or at a medical appointment.
High attendance and high academic achievement go hand in hand.
To put it simply, if your child is not at school, they cannot learn what the rest of the class are learning.
Please reach out to me if you have any issues at all around attendance.
Monday Is An Important Day To Be At School
Make sure your child is at school every day unless they are sick.

Did you know that our school suffers from Mondayitis? We have high absenteeism on a Monday.
Let's work together and improve this.
