Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.

Special thanks to our amazing whānau who support us in so many ways. Together, we make a real difference for all involved in our school.
We are very blessed at Sacred Heart Cathedral School with the incredible staff team. I am so grateful to our staff who provide so many rich learning experiences and excite students about learning. To the staff at Sacred Heart Cathedral School thank you for bringing the curriculum alive for our students.
To our Trustees, who work so hard for the good of all. We are all grateful for the special and unique way you govern our school.
Blessings to you all during the festive season. Please have a well-earned break over Summer and we look forward to seeing you after the break.
School starts on Thursday, 30th January 2025 at 8.40 AM.
I am still awaiting the two dates from the Ministry of Education as to when school will be closed as staff learn about the new structured Maths curriculum. I will let you know as soon as this is confirmed.
Have a very happy and holy Christmas. Spend quality time with whānau and friends and make sure you take time out for yourselves.
Take care.

Congratulations to the following students who have received the Sacrament of Confirmation at St Theresa's Parish, Karori on Sunday, 1st December:
- Mireia (Room 5)
- Mataio (Room 7)
Please drop off any uniform items you would like to give to the school that your child has outgrown at the school office. If you have any excess clothing hangers you would like to donate, please give them at the office. Also, if your child is in Year 8, it would also be very appreciated if you could donate their uniform to the school. Thank you so much for your support.
We have headlice across the school. Please check your child's hair and treat accordingly.
Scratching, scratch marks or a rash can be a sign that your tamariki has head lice. But not all tamariki complain of itchy heads. The main sign of head lice is being able to see the insects or nits by checking closely for them.
If you have head lice:
Tamariki with live lice should stay away from kura or school until treatment has started.
Always do a second treatment 7 to 10 days after the first. This is to kill any head lice that may have hatched after the first treatment.
Wet combing:
- Wet the hair and scalp with conditioner (this makes it easier to see the head lice).
- Use a fine-toothed comb to check for head lice and eggs and to comb them out. It is best to use a fine metal comb, or a special head lice comb you can get from a pharmacy.
- Comb the full length of the hair, from the scalp to the ends. Work your way around the head so that you have combed all of the hair.
- If you see any head lice or eggs, clean the comb by wiping it on a tissue or a paper towel, or rinse the comb before you use it again.
- After you have combed all of the hair, rinse out the conditioner.
- If you find lice or eggs, repeat these steps every day if you can manage it, but at least every 2 to 3 days. You can stop when you find no lice or eggs for 3 days in a row.
Check the hair of everyone in the house twice a week for the next 2 weeks to make sure everyone stays clear.
Stop head lice from spreading:
- Brush hair every day. This may help kill or injure head lice and stop them from laying eggs.
- Do not share brushes, combs, headbands, ribbons, hairclips, helmets or hats - anything that touches someone’s head.
- Have short hair or wear long hair in a ponytail to make it less likely you will catch head lice.
- Tamariki should hang their clothes on their own hook at school.
- Tamariki should keep their clothes apart from other children’s in swimming or sport changing rooms.
- If you do get head lice in your whānau, everyone that has them should be treated at the same time.
Let the school and any other close friends know that your tamariki have been treated for head lice.
Some former students who now attend St. Mary's College, St. Patricks College Wellington, and St. Patrick's College Silverstream came on Monday, 9th December to talk to our seniors about their college experiences and to advise our Year 8s about moving to college. Marley Oloapu-Atoni from St. Patricks Wellington, Ethan Todd from St. Patricks Silverstream, Liana Saipani, Annie Launiuvao, and Lynda Rabeni-Vatuloka at St Mary's Collage are all Year 13 next year at their respective colleges and gave up their time to talk to and answer questions our seniors might have about their future.
We appreciate the advice these former students gave and wish them well for their futures as we prepare to farewell our current Year 8s as they move on to new beginnings.

TOUCH SEASON UPDATE:
Last Wednesday, SHCS Jets had their final game of the season vs the Island Bay Cheetahs with the Jets coming away with a WIN 11-4 and wow what a game it was!
The team pulled together for the last game and we had a few team members who scored tries confidently for the first time, kids running around players and playing great off the line defence, plus also an amazing execution of a two person touch split (code name Golden duck) which lead to an amazing try by the White brothers! which was exciting to see!
Player of the day was Kaatia (Room 5), for her amazing sprinting around the defence leading to a couple of tries. Special mention to Dougal (Room 3), for his fresh legs and ability to run and stretch out the defence line and then scoring this amazing try.
Overall season winners:
MVP - Archie (Room 6) - Mr reliable and great leadership
Best Team Player - Kialani (Room 6) - Being a great team player
The Jets and their Parents and supporters want to say thank you to Nicola and Jared for coaching and organising the team, and speedy recovery coach! -
