Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.

The 2024 theme for Samoa Language Week is 'Tautua i le alofa, manuia le lumana’i – Serve in love for a blessed future'.
This theme derives from the overarching Language Week Series theme for 2024, 'Sustainability'.
What does the phrase ‘Tautua i le alofa’ mean? The concept of tautua focuses on the phrase – “Serve in love”. Love is the driving force of service. No matter what service looks like or who is doing it, service is accomplished through the power of love.
To all of our Samoan families thank you for the very special way you serve our school and demonstrate your love through action. Have a wonderful week celebrating with your families.
Check out the video below to see our whole school learning a sasa.
What a wonderful week! We have had lots of sport, culture, and off course reading. Thank you to everyone who supported us as we delivered a vibrant curriculum.
Thank you to Anna and Kate who took a large group to run at the Central Zone Cross Country event last Thursday. True to form, our students gave it everything in rather chilly conditions. Across town at Akau Tangi Sports Centre, Ann and our wonderful netball coaches took our Year 7 and 8 Saturday teams to participate in the Catholic Intermediate Netball tournament. We are super grateful to all the adults who supported us to make these events go so smoothly.

Opening of the Cathedral:
You are all invited to the opening of the Cathedral on Sunday, 9th June at the 10:00am mass. There will also be a light brunch served afterwards. It is such an exciting time for our parish and school community as we return to our stunning Cathedral.
If your child has siblings who would like to enrol in our school for Year 2025, please download and fill in an enrolment form through our website - https://sacred-heart.school.nz/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/SHCS-Enrolment-Pack.pdf for your child and send it to the office or email at office@sacred-heart.school.nz. Please be informed that our Year 2025 enrolments will close on 31st July 2024.
Special thanks to all our Road Patrollers and staff who keep our tamariki safe.
Don't forget to let us know if any of your emergency details have changed. Please let Frances know at office@sacred-heart.school.nz.
We have a number of students who have Covid-19, flu, colds, tummy aches other respiratory illnesses. Please keep your child at home if they are feeling unwell. Here are some tips in order to prevent the spread of illness to our whānau:
- Keep your hands clean by washing them regularly especially after sneezing, coughing and using the toilet.
- Cover your cough and sneeze into your elbow or use a tissue.
- Keep surfaces clean like table tops, taps, door handle, phones, computer, etc.
Have a wonderful week. Blessings to you all and thank you for everything you do for our school community.

Sacred Heart Cathedral School
83% of students were in class from 20th May to 24th May.
Please ensure that your child is at school every day unless they are sick or at a medical appointment.
High attendance and high academic achievement go hand in hand.
To put it simply, if your child is not at school, they cannot learn what the rest of the class are learning.
Please reach out to me if you have any issues at all around attendance.
Keeping Your Contact Details Updated
Please email office@sacred-heart.school.nz to update us if your contact information changes, including your address, phone number (home or mobile), child's doctor's information (name and medical centre), and emergency contact person other than the child's parents. It is crucial that the information we have about your emergency contact is accurate and up to date.
I want to really thank you as a school community the way you got in behind the readathon.
We raised a lot of money.
I would like to thank Sue and Adele for all their hard work and behind-the-scenes work that enabled this to be a successful fundraising event.
Please, please can you thank on my behalf your generous sponsors. We are so grateful.
Reading has been the winner. Getting our young people re-engaged with literature has been so wonderful to see.
Some of our IT devices are getting very old and are no longer able to be updated/repaired so I have ordered some replacement IPads and chromebooks.
This will be rolled out throughout the next term.
We had a beautiful liturgy last Friday to celebrate all Pasifika cultures.
It was an extraordinary liturgy what struck us all was the fluency and confidence in our students using language and delivering language.
We are super grateful to Julius for preparing the liturgy with the students.
The staff at Sacred Heart Cathedral School were so proud of all who was involved.

It has been brought to our attention that we have head lice across our classrooms. Please check your child's hair regularly and treat it if necessary.

Sacred Heart Ferns (Year 5/6 E) played Brooklyn Fireballs and won 6-3. The girls gave it their all in the rain. Despite a very slippery ball, they came away with a win. Fantastic team play! Player of the day was Maria (Room 7) for her work in defence!
Sacred Heart Ace (Year 7/8 B) vs Brooklyn Vipers was a good win for the team with 20-8. Congratulations to our player of the day Annibelle (Room 8) for her awesome defence getting intercepts and Emily for amazing shooting and giving us a steady hand in Centre bringing the ball down the court. Every player is improving so much each week! Well done!
