Weekly Update From Bernadette Murfitt

Bernadette photo.JPG

Talofa lava.

The 2024 theme for Samoa Language Week is 'Tautua i le alofa, manuia le lumana’i – Serve in love for a blessed future'.

This theme derives from the overarching Language Week Series theme for 2024, 'Sustainability'.

What does the phrase ‘Tautua i le alofa’ mean? The concept of tautua focuses on the phrase – “Serve in love”. Love is the driving force of service. No matter what service looks like or who is doing it, service is accomplished through the power of love.

To all of our Samoan families thank you for the very special way you serve our school and demonstrate your love through action. Have a wonderful week celebrating with your families.

What a wonderful week! We have had lots of sport, culture, and off course reading. Thank you to everyone who supported us as we delivered a vibrant curriculum.

Thank you to Anna and Kate who took a large group to run at the Central Zone Cross Country event last Thursday. True to form, our students gave it everything in rather chilly conditions. Across town at Akau Tangi Sports Centre, Ann and our wonderful netball coaches took our Year 7 and 8 Saturday teams to participate in the Catholic Intermediate Netball tournament. We are super grateful to all the adults who supported us to make these events go so smoothly.

Opening of the Cathedral:

You are all invited to the opening of the Cathedral on Sunday, 9th June at the 10:00am mass. There will also be a light brunch served afterwards. It is such an exciting time for our parish and school community as we return to our stunning Cathedral.

If your child has siblings who would like to enrol in our school for Year 2025, please download and fill in an enrolment form through our website - https://sacred-heart.school.nz/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/SHCS-Enrolment-Pack.pdf for your child and send it to the office or email at office@sacred-heart.school.nz. Please be informed that our Year 2025 enrolments will close on 31st July 2024.

Special thanks to all our Road Patrollers and staff who keep our tamariki safe.

Don't forget to let us know if any of your emergency details have changed. Please let Frances know at office@sacred-heart.school.nz.

We have a number of students who have Covid-19, flu, colds, tummy aches other respiratory illnesses. Please keep your child at home if they are feeling unwell. Here are some tips in order to prevent the spread of illness to our whānau:

  • Keep your hands clean by washing them regularly especially after sneezing, coughing and using the toilet.
  • Cover your cough and sneeze into your elbow or use a tissue.
  • Keep surfaces clean like table tops, taps, door handle, phones, computer, etc.

Have a wonderful week. Blessings to you all and thank you for everything you do for our school community.

Arohanui,
