Chaos at the Gate Today. Pick Up and Drop Off Arrangements - Please be Considerate
For safety reasons, parents mustn't enter the playground before school or at the end of the school day. It is an accident just waiting to happen.
St Mary's College have asked us not to park on their grounds.
Our neighbour today (on Eccleston Hill) was blocked in by parent cars and was unable to leave his home.
Please show consideration to our students and our surrounding neighbours.
Please note that there should be no parents coming up Guildford Terrace at the start of the school day or at the end of the school day.

Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Welcome to Ellie, who joined our school in Room 1 yesterday. Ellie, you will make lifelong friends at our school.
Last week was such a special week as we celebrated belonging to our fabulous Catholic Community.
I hope you took the time to enjoy some whānau time during the long weekend. It is certainly a great opportunity to change the pace of life and the weather was so lovely here in the capital.
We had a fantastic get-together with our Filipino community last week. We were very grateful to Ambassador Kira, who joined us for this occasion and shared with us insights about her role.

The 2025 theme for Samoan Language Week is ‘Ia malu lou sā. Folau i lagimā – A well-grounded self, is a successful self’.
This is a special week for all of our Samoan whānau. Thank you for your willingness to share your culture with us all. Thank you for all that you do for our school community from governance to fundraising, coaching and managing and supporting events inside and outside the classroom.
Special thanks to Asus Education and Aiscorp Limited, who have donated a high-spec Chromebook for our school to use in our raffle for our fundraiser.
At our playground area, it was nice to see our students playing our new ping pong set.
Tomorrow and Friday, I am at the New Catholic Principals Conference here in Wellington. Te Ao Mārama - Embracing Hope through Aroha and Whakapono.
Thank you all and take care. To our Samoan whānau, have a wonderful week of celebration.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Attendance continues to be a top priority for the government, which has set a target of 80% of students attending school for more than 90% of the term by 2030. To achieve this, schools must aspire to reach an average daily attendance rate above 94%.
Last week, 26th-30th May, we were 86.34%.
If your child is absent from school, please contact the school to let us know the reason for your child's absence. You can do this in a number of ways:

Summerset On The Landing Visit
Special thanks to our Middle Syndicate who have enriched the lives of residents at Summerset Landing.
Thank you to our staff and our incredible whānau helpers who made it all happen.
From Cassie and Riva (Room 7) - On the 30th of May, the Middle Syndicate went to Summerset retirement village to sing songs and interact with the residents about Matariki. We sang a variety of waiata while they watched and listened. After we sang, some of the children went to level 1 to sing to the residents who weren’t able to go down to the ground floor, while the rest listened to stories from the residence and created stars for Matariki. They appreciated us going there for the morning and it was a great experience for everyone in the Middle Syndicate. We really loved seeing all the residents at Summerset smile and we hope to see all of them again soon.
From Summerset:
Hello beautiful whanau from SHCS,
What a delightful morning you provided us with. I am still getting stopped around the village by residents who thoroughly enjoyed your visit. You have lit up the resident’s lives.
As you saw, one couple was downstairs and then took the lift up to the first floor to see you sing again. What a joy!
The stars on our Matariki wall look amazing. Once I have finished putting the wall together, I will certainly share a photo with you all.
The two teachers who live here were just delighted to work with your young people. How they miss working with Tamariki.
You, students coming in and giving us such an amazing show has sparked so much aroha here, and has started a bit of talk about Matariki (believe me, this is no mean feat!).
Once again, thank you, from the bottom of our hearts for your amazing performance. Just like last year, I am sincerely hoping that you will come back again. We LOVE having you. The interaction between your students and my residents is life-enriching!

BASKETBALL:
Sacred Heart Crispy Crème (Year 7/8) vs Sacred Heart Dunkin Donuts (Year 7/8) - A great clash between the two SHCS teams on Friday! Deserved win to the Dunkin Donuts 24-12 but everyone had lots of fun against their friends. Congratulations to Brodie (Room 9), as player of the day for the Crispy Crème team and Kundiso (Room 8) is the player of the day for Dunkin Donuts.
Sacred Heart Throws (Year 5/6) - It was an awesome game, team! Well deserved and good teamwork! The Throws won against Redwood States, 35-15. Congratulations to Jackson (Room 7) for player of the day.
DANCE:
The girls' dance school (LA Dance) has annual full dance school productions held every year. This year’s production is called “The Museum of Fame” — it follows a family who gets locked inside a museum overnight… and as the lights dim, the wax exhibits of famous people magically come alive. Think “Night at the Museum” — minus the dinosaurs!
Simone (Room 5) and Arabella (Room 2), among the white swans of Anna Pavlova, Eliza (Room 3), one of Taylor Swift's dancers and Eona (Room 1), one of the moonbeams of Frank Sinatra. Well done girls!
It's a delight to share Alex (Room 9) and Riva (Room 7) recent achievements in their chosen sport - Rhythmic Gymnastics for the past 2 weekends. They're both competing for Level 5 Nationals.
Big Congratulations Alex & Riva! All the best of luck for the rest of your qualifying competitions and hope to see you in Nationals Championship in September.
