Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/caregivers,
A special welcome to Sophia and Otis, (Rm 1) who both joined our school community last week. We look forward to welcoming you to our school when we get back to a semi normal situation. Sophia and Otis, one for the history books - starting school when our country was in "lockdown".
Special thanks to all families who have been so supportive of our distance learning programme. My own children are older and are independent. During our family bubble walks we have often talked about how it would be for younger children and their parents. I can only imagine how difficult it has been for you during our COVID19 time. Juggling work, running a house plus supporting your children with learning. Clare Hewson sent the staff this great little 1 pager. There is nothing new in this but lots of great reminders for us all about looking after ourselves.
Our distance learning is working well. While it will certainly have challenges for you at home balancing work and care for your children, we are getting a lot of great feedback too. It is exciting to see the innovation that has been happening. Please keep sending us photos and videos so we can see what our students, families and whānau have been up to at home.
We have been open for a few students in Level 3 supervising distance learning.
We have closely followed the public health measures that have been put in place for Alert Level 3. These were set by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education to minimise spread in the unlikely event that someone in our community is confirmed with COVID-19.
Under Alert Level 3 we have had a small bubble in place, our staff and students are staying 1 metre apart inside and 2 metres outside, our cleaning programme fully aligns with Health guidance. Our contacts register is fully operational.
Planning is in place for when we move down Alert levels. We have hand sanitiser in classrooms and lots of visual reminders to students and staff to undertake good hygiene practices such as good etiquette when coughing and sneezing, and washing hands frequently.
Please continue to inform yourself through the Ministry of Health website https://www.health.govt.nz/our-work/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-novel-coronavirus/covid-19-current-situation/covid-19-current-cases or the Official COVID 19 website https://covid19.govt.nz/.
Staying home if sick, physical distancing, good hand hygiene, not touching your face, good cough/sneeze etiquette and regular cleaning of high-touch surfaces minimises any potential spread of the virus, if we were to have a case in our community. Our school’s health and safety system is all set up to ensure this happens.
Wishing all of our Mums a very special Alert Level 3 Mother's Day this Sunday. Thank you for all you do for our school and school community.
Loving God,
we thank you for the love of the mothers you have given us,
whose love is so precious that it can never be measured,
whose patience seems to have no end.
May we see your loving hand behind them and guiding them.
We pray for those mothers who fear they will run out of love
or time, or patience.
We ask you to bless them with your own special love.
We ask this in the name of Jesus,
Amen.
"In the midst of chaos lies opportunity.
Where might there be opportunities to do things differently?"
Stay safe.
Stay strong.
Be kind.
Keep loving all those in your bubble.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt
Principal
Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Sunday Mass with Cardinal John
Joshua (Rm 6) made an Ice Cream Sundae as part of his Writing Instructions Activity. He also did a Sound Experiement by using big and small spoons tied on each end. As an extra activity, he painted a sculpture (Gargoyle) that his Dad made out of polymer clay.

Congratulations to Carles Rm 6 who was awarded a Gold Certificate in Mathletics. Well done Carles.
Student Council Thank you cards for essential workers
The Student Council is asking for children to make 'Thank you' cards for essential workers that can be brought into school when we open, so they can send them out.
Put the school name on it as well as your name! If you don’t have materials, plan it and we can finish it at school.
This is a great way to keep up to date with everything that is happening at school.
To download SchoolApp:
