Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Today we are entering schooling under Alert Level 3. My sincere thanks to Kate, Leanne, Clare and Cathy who are here with me at school.
Thank you so much for responding to the survey and for all the fabulous future focussed feedback you gave us. Yesterday our staff spent their teacher only day - reviewing our distance learning plan and all your comments on the survey. This was so helpful and we will continue to be as responsive as we can to your needs.
If you have any issues at all around what your child is learning please contact their teacher. Thank you again for your incredible patience with us during this time.
Our students have totally embraced the new normal of learning.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Ann Stephen (teacher in Room 10) whose father John Murfitt passed away yesterday afternoon. Ann has shown tremendous strength in the special way she has been able to care for her Dad over the past couple of months. Ann's Dad is also my father-in-law and he was a very special Grandad as well, to our children. Our family has been truely blessed by John. R.I.P.
BOT meeting - next Tuesday night 5 May at 7pm is our monthly Board meeting. Board meetings are open to the public. This one will be a little different as it will be a zoom meeting. Here is the link should you wish to attend. https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86169955539?pwd=dW5MRFFDdDdZTFVrbkkxNGhPWk9Zdz09
We are looking forward to being back together as a school community. Our Board and staff teams have been working very hard getting our safety plan together. Our classrooms are all ready for our children that incorporate all public health key messages. The cleaners have done an exceptional job and our school is spotless. Looking forward to when we head to Alert Level 2. I was asked the other day what I have missed the most? I very quickly answered, people - I have missed the children my colleagues, and all our parents. What I have loved is being with John, Bede and Niamh but I do get the feeling that they are looking forward to interacting with their friends again and seeing a little less of me.
Lord, we give thanks for the many blessings we receive:
our families, our faith, our beautiful country in which to live and the qualities we have each been gifted; may we cherish these blessings today and always. Lord hear us.
Keep safe in your bubble.
Keep those photos coming.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt
Principal, Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Dear all,
As some families and teachers return to Sacred Heart Cathedral school today in a very different way at level 3, I would like to thank our Principal Bernadette, all teachers and support staff who have played a major role ensuring teaching and learning continues during level 4 and 3 in a very different way. They have also kept us all so well informed at this difficult time.
The Board of Trustees has a legal requirement to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of both staff and students at school and we have been following the government’s guidelines to plan for re-opening of the school at level 3 and beyond. The Board has continued to work together during lockdown and have been meeting via Zoom weekly to process and discuss the regular information from the Ministry of Education and support our Principal and staff and create a safe plan for our school.
Next week (Tuesday 5 May) we will meet for our usual board meeting via Zoom. As well as discussing how our plan for level 3 is working, we will be focussing on the school finances with our accountant who is attending part of the meeting. The strategic item on the agenda is “Community Relationships”. We are planning to consult with you in June of this year so look out for a survey closer to the time. This consultation helps us to set our strategic plan going forward.
I hope you and your families are staying safe and well.
If you have any questions about the above, please email or call me (suzanneadair@hotmail.com , 021 039 7558).
Suzanne Adair
Chair of Board
Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
