Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
We hope that you are all safe, healthy and settled into bubble life. It has been lovely to see and hear what our students have been up to over the past few weeks.
I am so impressed at how resilient our students are and how well everyone has taken to distance learning. Like you all, I am sure that you are all looking forward to getting back to our ‘new normal’ life over the next wee while!
On Monday, our Government announced that from Tuesday next week NZ will move down to Level 3.
As we move towards level 3 of the COVID-19 response plan, our Prime Minister has said that:
"We expect New Zealanders to work and learn from home if they can.
We still want the vast majority of people working from home, and children and
young people working from home."
Please note next Tuesday, 28th April is a Teacher only Day - there will be no distance learning as staff will be preparing for Alert Level 3.
Welcome to Hugo who joined our school on Wednesday, 15 April and Shaun who started today, both are in Room 1. We know that you are going to have a fantastic time at our school. We look forward to welcoming you and your family to our school community once school is back in operation.
I am super proud of our staff. They have all been incredibly positive, respond with compassion to a whole range of expectations and are embracing the new opportunities and challenges that distance learning presents.
Special thanks also to our wonderful parent community. Thank you for helping me plan for Alert Level 3 with your prompt response to our survey. Thank you for all the support you are giving our team. Your feedback in our survey was incredibly useful and very much appreciated.
Later on in the week I will communicate our Alert Level 3 plan to our families who are returning to school next Wednesday. Our priority it is for the health and safety of all of our students, whanau, our staff and their bubbles and our community.
We really appreciate that this is a very stressful time for you all - especially around the continued uncertainty of what life looks like for us all moving forward. We are - like you - working in unknown territory - so things are likely to change quickly as we get new information and instruction from our government.
I will leave you with a beautiful reflection from Mother Teresa
The future is not in our hands.
We have no power over it.
We can act only today.
We have a sentence in
our Constitution that says:
"We will allow the good God to
make plans for the future—for
yesterday has gone, tomorrow
has not yet come and we have
only today to make Him
known, loved and served."
So we do not worry about it.
Kindness and blessings to all of our tamariki and whanau.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt
Principal
Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Daisy (Rm 6) made focaccia bread for her family- well done Daisy
Ava (Rm 9) has been busy making masks, participating in a lot of online live dance classes and baking:

Amelia, Tim and Ben have also been keeping busy: Amelia made Cheese Puffs from tech class for lunch - they were yummy and did last long. For creative time they made the weather vanes from the art and craft activities Mrs Geraghty sent through. Ben has really been enjoying the activities Mrs Hewson has been sending through See Saw and Google class. Amelia has also completed her gratitude activity.

Being in lockdown we are all making history. Have a go at recording what you are doing on this time capsule.
The links / passwords to class Zoom meetings must not be shared with students from other classes.
Parents/Guardians should remain in the room or nearby during Zoom chats, but not be present on the screen.
All participants will enter the Zoom session via a waiting room so that the club will start promptly.
Only children belonging to the class will be admitted into the call from the waiting room.
All students should have the camera enabled to ensure transparency.
Screen content cannot be recorded under any circumstances.
The host will be in control of the screensharing feature so students will only have a controlled ability to share their screen when it is part of an activity, and with supervision from parents. Please ensure on any device that only the Zoom application is open, and all other windows closed.
The students will not be left unsupervised in the Zoom.
