Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.

We need your help! Get the word out! Let your friends know!
We have 3 international students that we need to find long-term homestays for starting in October for Term 4. While we would love to find them a long term family immediately, we would appreciate a homestay taking them for Term 4 until we can find them a permanent home for 2025. Please consider this option.
1. Thai student
2. Chinese students
All three boys are long term students, returning for the 2025 school year.
St Patrick's offers a homestay fee of $340.00 per week for 2024, and $360.00 per week for 2025. If you would like to host one of these young men please email Meg Szulinski, the International Student Coordinator at St. Patrick's College at meg.szulinski@stpats.school.nz
Please be aware, I only work 20 hours/week. I will respond to emails as promptly as I can. If you have an emergency, please contact Mr. Wayne Mills at +64-4-939-3070 x 264.
On Friday, the 16th August, 3 year 7/8 teams attended the ‘Inter school handball champs tournament’ at Akau Tangi.
They had a great day playing a number of handball matches against other schools in the area.
Sacred Heart Tahi (an all boys team) came in 8th place. Sacred Heart Rua (an all boys) came in seventh place.
These teams were awarded ‘Most Impressive Attack’ award.
Special mention to Quinn (Room 9) who was awarded ‘Best Trickshot’ for the tournament.
Sacred Heart Toru (an all girls team), came fourth and were awarded ‘Best Team Spirit’ for the tournament.
A special mention to Janiva (Room 10) who won ‘Most Impressive Playmaker’ award.

89% were in class from 12th August to 16th August.
Let's work on punctuality. School starts at 8.40 am.
We open the doors at 8.10 am - a little earlier if it is cold and wet.
1. Regular attendance at school helps build and maintain a child's learning and positive daily habits and routines, as well as promote their well-being by connecting them to their peers and learning new things.
2. We want our tamariki to thrive and be resilient and active members within their whānau and community.
3. Attendance matters and we can all work together to increase school attendance.

BASKETBALL:
Sacred Heart Tangaroa (Year 5/6 Div 5) vs Kilbernie Hornets lost 23-54. A good game despite the result. It was a fast-paced game and all team members showed determination and spirit until the final whistle. Thanks to Rafael and Fletcher (Room 7) for filling in and also to Mrs Stephen for taking the team. Player of the day was Jackson (Room 6) for his work in defence where he used his height well and mid-court play where he moved into space to receive the ball.
Sacred Heart Ruamoko (Year 5/6 Div 1) won against Scots Thunder 31-23. These teams were evenly matched. Ruamoko were always in the lead but the Thunder fought back determinedly and at times, closed the gap to within a couple of baskets. Player of the day went to Magnus who shot his first basket and greatly improved dribbling the ball down the court. Magnus and Lucas are players from Roseneath School who have joined the Ruamoko team.
Sacred Heart Tawhirimatea (Girls League) won 41-17 against St Marks Swish, team had 1 sub. Great effort from everyone! Player of the day was Harper (Room 7) for all round attacking and defence. Special mention to Lila Rose (Room 7) and Asu (Room 7) for great drives up the court and 1 on 1 defence.
Sacred Heart Dunkin Donuts (Year 7/8 Div 4) played a tough game against Nga Mokopuna Taiohi and lost 7-44. Lucas (Room 8) got the player of the day.
Sacred Heart Krispy Kreme (Year 7/8 Div 1) vs EBIS Matai lost 23-28.
NETBALL:
Sacred Heart Angels (Year 5/6 C) Angels played Kahurangi School, Angels WON 8-1 who were a good team. Congratulations to our player of the day Kundiso (Room 7), who was on first the entire game and a special mention to Lila Rose (Room 7) for her awesome effort throughout the game.
Sacred Heart Ferns (Year 5/6 E) drew 8-8 against Ridgeway and unfortunately, an injury meant the Ferns had no subs so a hard game for the girls. Player of the day was Margaux (Room 6) for fantastic intercepts and attacking play.
Sacred Heart Ace (Year 7/8 B) - vs TKKM Nga Mokopuna Tuakana lost 4-18.

St Mary's College Business Cooking Experience
We are a year 13 Young Enterprise business group from St Mary's (the college next door). As part of our business studies, we have made an educational cooking kit for kids aged 7-13 to create their own healthy bliss balls by following online animated instructions. The animations teach the kids how to chop, mix, and roll the balls.
