BASKETBALL:
Sacred Heart has had 5 teams competing throughout Term 2 and Term 3 in the Wellington Basketball League at Aka Tangi Sports Centre this year. We have had a huge uptake of students participating in the game for the first time which has been fantastic. The league introduced an All Girls league in the Year 5/6 age group and we had a strong team in this group. Just this week, they came out winners of their league. It was such a great success for them, well done! We are very grateful to have the support of the Up Foundation who paid the subs for all teams in this league.
Thank you to all the parents, siblings, and grandparents, who got the children to the games and supported them through the highs and lows. We know it is a big commitment to get the children at the venue each week.
A massive thank you to Adele, Lalita, Ann and Hannah for overseeing the coordinating of teams.
Sacred Heart Ruamoko (Year 5/6 Div 1) vs St Anne's Warriors lost 34-38. Player of the day was Shaun (Room 6) for shooting the lights out. The team this year had a hard pool in Division 1 and showed that they could still hold their own. You should be all super proud of yourselves. Thanks to all the children who filled in for us throughout the season. It was a massive help - Asu, Lyla, Harper, Jiezel, Brodie, Dougal, Fletcher and Rafael.
Sacred Heart Tangaroa (Year 5/6 Div 5) - The last game of the season was a nailbiter - SHCS Tangaroa, 21 vs Scots Thunder, 22. Player of the day was Rafael (Room 7). Throughout the season, Rafael has been our most reliable shooter and in the last game, his shooting skills kept us in the game. Strong defence was provided by Brodie, Fletcher, Thomas and Charlie.
Sacred Heart Tawhirimatea (Year 5/6 Girls League) played Holy Cross Green in their final game in Y5/Y6 Up Foundation Girls grade. Tawhirimatea came away with a big win! 42-17, a hard-fought game right to the end!
The girls first came together in term 2 and then back again for another round in term 3 and it was amazing and a great privilege to see the girls growing confidently and learning to work/play together as a team and just giving it a go!
Thank you to the Up Foundation for sponsoring all the girls playing in the Wellington Basketball Association League. It is such a great opportunity for our young hine! The player of the day was Jiezl (Room 7) for driving play, great eye (being able to spot the gaps and take it to the hoop). Another player of the day was Harper (Room 7), Miss Reliable on defence and attack. Special mention to Lyla (Room 6) for awesome dribbling/attacking taking the ball up the court.
Sacred Heart Krispy Kreme (Year 7/8 Div 1) vs St Anne's Mavericks lost 22-31.
Sacred Heart Dunkin Donuts (Year 7/8 Div 4) vs Mt Cook Ballers lost 7-37.
TAUPO RUGBY TOURNAMENT:
Fletcher & Thomas (Room 7) represented MSP under 11 Turtles at the Global Games Junior Rugby Tournament in Taupō over the weekend. Playing 5 games over 3 days against teams from across the North island. They met some tough competition, finishing the weekend with a win, a draw and a couple of slim losses. They also took a break between games to support fellow classmate, Ellie (Room 7), representing North’s.
