NETBALL:
Great effort by all teams last Saturday all coming away with a WIN!
Sacred Heart Angels (Year 5/6 C) played Nga Mokopuna Teina and won 17-12. Game was even between the teams in the first half and then the Angels managed to pull away and take the win with no subs! Player of the day was Harper (Room 7) with her attacking game in the goal circle and her shots in goal (she was on)! Special mention to Kundiso (Room 7), great defence and really held her own against her partner and awesome positional play.
Sacred Heart Ferns (Year 5/6 E) played Brooklyn Fireballs and came away with a win 9-5. Player of the day Isabelle (Room 6) for fantastic performance in defence first half of the game followed by some brilliant goals in attack in the last quarter.
Sacred Heart Ace (Year 7/8 B) had an excellent game winning against Hataitai School 12-8. Congratulations to our player of the day, Sabrina (Room 9), who showed beautiful movement and flair in the circle and grit with physical opposition.
JUNIOR NETBALL REGISTRATION:
Registrations are open for Year 3 & 4 Junior Netball (Term 4).
Starts – Saturday, 19th October – Saturday, 7th December (last day). No game on Labour Weekend (26th October).
We will need a parent/parents volunteer to help on the day to make this work no experience needed!
This is an awesome intro into netball!
Year 3 & 4 Programme:
Year 3 & 4’s play a modified version of the game (5 v 5) over two thirds of a netball court using a size.
4 netball and 2.6 metre goals. A portable goal will be used at one end. Girls and boys can play.
Positions are 2 x Attacker, 2 x Defender, 1 x Centre, with the court split into halves. MK will provide all resources for the programme, including Junior Co-ordinators to lead the programme, and all equipment (including balls and bibs).
Each weekly session is 60 minutes long and incorporates both a skill development period and a game of approximately 4 x 6 minute quarters. There are five players from each team on the court. Teams may use rolling substitutions at any time during the game. A maximum of eight players per team is recommended. We prefer to register year 3 & 4 players within school teams. However, if there are not enough players from a single school to form appropriate sized teams, we are happy to accept registrations from individuals, and make up teams from these players each week.
No more than 16 teams can participate in any round. The amount of rounds will depend on the amount of entries. Confirmation of your round will be made as soon as possible after the closing date of entries.
Each team registration must be accompanied by at least one Year 3/4 Coach registration. On Game Day (Saturday), Coaches supervise a small group of children under the guidance of the Junior Co-ordinator (provided by MK). Coaches need to attend a Woolworths futureFERNS training course and be available on Game Day. There is no umpire, but a Junior Co-ordinator or Coach is allowed onto the court to assist and support players during the game.
