Kia ora koutou e te whānau,

This week is Cook Island Language Week. To our Sacred Heart Cathedral School Cook Island families have a wonderful week celebrating your culture, identity and heritage.

This year’s theme for Te ‘Epetoma o te reo Māori Kūki ‘Āirani – Cook Islands Language Week is ‘Ātui’ia au ki te vaka o tōku matakeinanga', which means, "connect me the canoe of my tribe".

The theme focuses on deepening Cook Islands people's connection to their traditions, cultures, and their dialects of their many islands through their familial ties, cultural traditions of their enua, vaka, and the songs, dance, and pe’e (chants) of their family.

Hasn't it been wonderful watching the Olympics over the last couple of weeks and seeing the behind-the-scenes of earning gold, silver, and bronze medals from our Kiwi athletes? So much hard work and perseverance when competing at the high international level (I must admit I have been going to bed a bit on the late side).

Thank you to our netball and basketball coaches and managers. As a school we are in awe of the commitment you give that enables our students to be part of a team. We all know the importance of being physical and playing sport encourages this.

We as a staff are very proud of the learning activities that we plan and deliver here at Sacred Heart Cathedral School. Our staff are dedicated and experienced in teaching sequentially, ensuring that each lesson builds on previous learning.  You would have received a written report at the end of term 2  outlining where your child is regarding meeting curriculum expectations in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. If your child's progress has not met the expected curriculum standards, we would have communicated this to you.  We believe that collaboration between home and school is crucial for your child’s success. Together, we can support them in developing essential literacy and mathematical skills.

Have a wonderful joyful week. Thank you for all that you do for our school. Less than one month less of Winter as we head towards Spring.

I will leave you with the voice of some of our students
