Sports News

A big thank you to all our parents who have supported school sport this year. It could not be done without you giving up your own time to organise, coach and train our teams. Thank you for pushing the tamariki to enjoy and build on their talents, teamwork and taha tinana. We really appreciate you.

Summer Football:

Sacred Heart Junior Strikers versus the Panthers – final score 0-14.

A tough loss, but the team played with great heart and never gave up. Player of the Day was Diego (Room 1) who is showing improved confidence on the field each week.

The whole team got Player of the Day as everyone played well and as a team and to come from behind was amazing!

Total Touch who run the competition gave us two certificates to hand out to two of our players for the season.

Most Impressive Player – Violet (Rm 5)

Most Valuable Player – Harley (Rm 5)

Huge thanks to Lalita for taking the team and teaching the kids the nuances of touch and doing so with so much energy. Thanks Lalita for your time and generosity. The kids have loved it. Thanks to Brian for taking the team while Lalita was away.

Junior Summer Netball - SHCS - Magic:

Over the last 6 weeks, SHCS Magic team have participated in the Year 3 and 4 futureFerns Programme.

This is a Netball NZ official junior netball programme for children in Years 1 to 4.

The programme is designed to be fast and fun , maximizing participation.  The focus for this age group is learning basic skills in a modified game of 5-a-side, using two-thirds of a Netball court.  Five players in each team and rotating positions ensures everyone gets an equal chance to develop their skills.

The girls have enjoyed it so much that we have registered a team for next year term 1, there is space for more players if your child is interested, please get in contact or keep an eye out early next year!

There is also a programme for Year 1 and 2 if there is enough interest, we may be able to form a team.

Special thanks to the girls who played this year, you all did amazing!
