School Marae Visit on Wednesday (28th June)
Here we are preparing for our trip to Pipitea Marae:
On Wednesday, 28th June, the whole school is visiting Pipitea Marae. We are very much looking forward to renewing our ties with Ngāti Poneke. The pōwhiri will be at 10am, followed by a day of learning and activities. The Year 6 students will stay on when the rest of the school leaves at 2pm for their own noho marae. Please read the following form, and indicate if you are available to help.
Important Information for the Year 6 Marae Overnight Visit:
On Wednesday, June 28th the school will be visiting Pipitea Marae. That evening the Year 6 students will have the opportunity to stay on for an overnight Noho Marae.
This is an exciting opportunity for our Year 6 students to stay away from home on a school outing. Being able to do this on our local marae is extra special as many students will get to experience something that may be completely new to them. They will be expected to follow the Tikanga (customs and traditional values) and Kawa (behaviour expected in a Maori meeting house).
Parents who wish their child to participate in the Noho Marae are asked to contribute towards the food and accommodation for their child (the food provided by us will be afternoon tea, supper, breakfast and a packed lunch for the next day at school).
We also ask that all whānau contribute to a shared meal for the dinner on the Wednesday evening. Children with allergies will need parents to provide alternatives where appropriate and will not have to pay full cost.
Contribution for students participating in the Noho Marae: $35per student (the school will cover the cost of the koha for the school's marae visit). Please deposit your payment to the school account:

Wednesday Evening Shared Meal - 6.30pm:
Parents and whānau are invited to join us for the shared meal. Whānau are very welcome to join us for the night, but if you do, we do ask that you provide a koha to contribute towards the experience costs.
Help for visit:
We will need around 3-4 parents to help out anytime from 3.00-8.00pm and at least 3 parents to stay over with us for the night. Helpers will also be required to assist us with walking the students back to school for an 8.15am start on the Thursday. The school will cover the costs of the stay/food for parent helpers.
What to pack:
- sleeping bag and pillow slip (mattress and pillow provided)
- toiletries (including any medications required)
- towel
- non-uniform clothes for the Thursday at school
- PJ's
- warm jacket for the evening
- torch
- book to read before light's out
- something for the shared meal Wednesday night
