Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Welcome back to term 2. I hope you have had a break and are energised for the term ahead.
A warm welcome to Xander, sho started at our school in Room 1 today. You are going to thoroughly enjoy your time at Sacred Heart Cathedral School and will make lifelong friends!
Our students will have a 2-week transition to wear their winter uniform. We have a lot of second-hand winter unforms if you would like to have a look or you could also check out NZ Uniforms, Thorndon.
We had a fabulous day on Monday going into a great deal of depth learning about the Refreshed Curriculum. https://youtu.be/gfpRap_s3AI
Every Thursday, we have full school Kapa Haka. We are so proud of the achievement of all of our students as they become very fluent with waiata.
It was certainly a little sobering to read the recently released Independent Police Conduct Authority report into the occupation at Parliament last February/March. Last year, I met with an investigator for over two hours outlining the impact of the occupation on our school and school community. Once again as I reflect, I am feeling super grateful to our amazing staff, Suzanne (our Presiding member), BOT members, students, community and Ministry of Education staff (Roy Sye and Anne Bell) together we developed systems and processes ensuring safety was always number one.
The following is a link from the diary of a World War II soldier.

Each day, I start my day with working with a group of students we were brainstorming what we are all grateful for. I shared this beautiful Whakatauki which also seems so perfect as we remember those who did so much for us in the past.
Tuku aroha ki mua. Tuku aroaha ki muri. Kia tu te aroha o naianei.
Send love to the past. Send love to the future. Be love today.
Have a wonderful week. Please reach out to your child's classroom teacher if you are worried about any aspects of school. Together we can work out a solution.
Mrs Murfitt, Mrs Stephen, Mr and Mrs Woodbury on camels at Alice Springs! A new experience for all the participants!!
