Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Farewell and thank you to John, Therese and Hannah.
John, thank you for all the wonderful contributions you have made to our school over the past 9 years. Over your tenure here at Sacred Heart Cathedral School you have given so much to all of our learners helping them to achieve their spiritual, academic, personal, cultural and social potential.
John has had a major influence in the direction of the school with his leadership gifts as a Staff Rep on our Board, Kahui Ako Within School Lead, Sports Leadership, and for the past 2 years a position that is so dear to you Director Of Religious Studies. John you are an amazing person you live gospel Values every time you move and everytime you interact with others. As a classroom teacher, your calm organsied approach allows students to really get their teeth into their learning while nurturing them as unique and special individuals. John, now you are off to be a Deputy Principal you will be amazing - St James in Palmerston North are getting taonga. – you are a treasure.
Therese, thank you for the past 2 years and the wonderful mahi you have done for the students in your care. Event management is a real area of strength for Therese – she can see the big picture instantly and then is able to break everything down into specific details.
When you teach, you enhance the individual "mana: of every one of your students. Your natural intelligence is evident in the learning programmes that you have designed in Room 9. We are so excited that you and John have another bundle of joy. We know Cole will also love the new chapter of being a big brother and moving to a new city. Therese, your knowledge has been second to none and we have been so grateful and lucky to have you being part of our team for the past two years.
Hannah joined us as a student teacher and then has continued to cover leave positions. Thank you for always sharing your beautiful heart with us and going the extra mile for the students last year in Room 5 and this year in Room 10. I know that moving back home to Taranaki is going to set you up for the future personally and professionally. Keep smiling Hannah and keep up the customer service that will always lead to positive learning outcomes for the students in your care.
To John, Therese and Hannah:
It is education that allows people to change their minds about what they think. The best education starts with what people know and takes them on a journey of discovery. If we change what people know, then we change what people think. It is as simple and as powerful as that.
What a legacy the three of you have left. Savour, reflect and be proud of what you have achieved at Sacred Heart Cathedral School.

Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Thank you very much for all your support and attention to detail on Monday when the Ministry of Education put our school into Lockdown. Please note that our processes went to plan while I was taking the call from the Ministry of Education, our bell rung to end the day. So, it really was all systems go. The staff and students were just incredible. Please note when there is an emergency that I will communicate with our school whānau through email and our school app. Please make sure that you have solid arrangements for your care after school as we have no playground supervision after 3 pm.
Congratulations to Tian (Rm 9) who received the Sacrament Of Baptism from Pa Gerry last Wednesday in the Connolly Hall Chapel with his whānau and his class. This was such a beautiful occasion. Tian may you continue to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Thank you Jaco, for starting work on painting our Pasifika mural.
The Middle Syndicate had a fantastic end of year Fun Day on Tuesday at Akau Tangi Sports Centre. Students played touchball, floorball, and then the fun of the big inflatables. A big thank you to the parents that supported us on this.
This Sunday is the Second Sunday of Advent.
Loving God, we see the beauty of your creation. We pray that you grant us the space to recognise the sacredness of the earth around us and that we may grow deeper in our respect and care for our common home.
Have a wonderful week - we are most certainly making the most of our students who won't be with us next year.
Keep your eye on the school calendar as we almost have something on at school every day.
Kia ū ki te pai, kia whai hua ai.
Hold on to what is good and good things will follow.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt
