Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update From Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
A special welcome to Zara, who has joined Room 9 for the year. Zara, you will love being at our school and will make lifelong friends.
The death of Kiingi Tuheitia is a time of great sadness for followers of Te Kiingitanga, and our nation.
He kura kua ngaroki tua o Rangi-whakamoe-ariki. Moi mai raa. A chief who has passed to the great beyond. Rest in love.
Little People, Big Feelings Programme - This is part of the Mike King Foundation. Your child would have received a lovely picture book. This emotional literacy programme fits in beautifully with our zones of regulation. The ambassadors facilitating the programme for us emphasised the simple fact that it is normal and healthy to experience a range of emotions. We are grateful to have been a part of this dynamic emotional literacy session.
The Joy of Spring
In the sight of a tiny lamb joyfully bounding across the hillside - we see the creators hand. For the sunlight's warmth upon the soil, we rejoice in the promise of spring.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Attendance & Punctuality Matters
86% were in class from 26th August to 30th August.
Let's work on punctuality. School starts at 8.40 am.
We open the doors at 8.10 am - a little earlier if it is cold and wet.
1. Regular attendance at school helps build and maintain a child's learning and positive daily habits and routines, as well as promote their well-being by connecting them to their peers and learning new things.
2. We want our tamariki to thrive and be resilient and active members within their whānau and community.
3. Attendance matters and we can all work together to increase school attendance.
Please ensure your child attends school every day unless they are sick.
In terms of punctuality - encourage your child to prepare their lunch and bag the night before so logistics will go smoothly in the morning.
Being at school is key to students growing in their learning and social development. Regular time off will mean gaps in learning. We acknowledge that life happens and students may experience sickness or there may be family challenges to navigate. Please reach out if you need support in getting your child to school.

Last week, the Middle syndicate participated in the "I Am Hope" programme by Mike King Foundation - Little People, Big Feelings.
This programme is designed to empower children by exploring many emotions beyond just happiness, highlighting the importance of expressing the full spectrum of feelings. Through captivating storytelling sessions led by ambassadors, issues like bullying, self-doubt, and emotional distress are addressed, emphasising that experiencing a variety of emotions is both normal and healthy.
