Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.

Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
A special welcome to Chad who started at our school on Monday, in Room 1, and to Matthew and Mary who started at our school yesterday in Room 5 and Room 2 respectively. You are all going to have such a fantastic time at our school.
Whakamaua te pae tata kia tina - Take hold of your potential so it becomes your reality.
We are descendants of explorers, discoverers, and innovators who used their knowledge to traverse distant horizons. Our learning will be inclusive, equitable, and connected so we progress and achieve advances for our students and their future journeys and encounters.
Whāīa te pae tawhiti kia tata - Explore beyond the distant horizon and draw it near. Thank you.
Thank you for the wonderful donations to our two schools in Napier: St Patrick's School and Reignier Catholic School. We as a school community have pooled resources and have raised $2,380.00. We will split this and give each school half and also a selection of beautiful blankets which will keep families nice and warm as we approach Winter. We are an incredibly generous community. Blessings on you all.
Thank you also for your Easter treats for our Easter raffle. First prize is a Chromebook and a small hamper. Students have all bought home tickets to sell. Money raised will go towards resources for our children with a focus on the outdoors.
Yes, we do provide a rich curriculum for students at Sacred Heart Cathedral School. This would not be possible without the support of our amazing whānau community. Thank you for all the help in recent weeks re trips, activities and sporting events.
This past week, we have witnessed another example of communities coming together for one of the biggest events in the Māori Calendar - Te Matatini herenga waka, herenga tangata Festival.
Watching the Kapa Haka performances brought joy and pride to us all. Our tamariki and young people saw Māori language, culture and heritage at its absolute best and the model of excellence shared across our country. Collectively, we mihi to those who organised this event and we mihi the performers who took part, representing their whanau, hapu and iwi. What a gift they shared with us all.
Loving God,
We pray for the people in war-stricken countries, for all those suffering and afraid, that you will be close to them and protect them. We pray for world leaders, for compassion, strength and wisdom to guide their choices.
Thank you all very much for all your support.
Have a great week.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Thorndon cycleways design update for Sacred Heart School and upcoming public consultation
Wellington City Council is heading out for consultation for the Thorndon Connections walk, bike and bus improvements from the 6th of March to the 27th of March and we’d love for the Sacred Heart School community to have the opportunity to have their say.
- Not enough pickup/drop-off on Hill st for parents, therefore made p5 (8am-9am, 2pm - 3pm) opposite Guildford Terrace (pictured below).
- Raising crossing outside of school
- 30km on Hill St with new speed humps to reinforce speed restrictions
You are invited to give feedback on the above changes
If you have any questions, want further discussion or need further information please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Ngā mihi nui
Alex.

Children's Asthma Study (CARE) Recruitment
My name is Mischa Walton, I am a researcher at the Medical Research Institute of New Zealand (MRINZ) based in Wellington Hospital. The MRINZ is currently running a study for children with mild asthma.
We have had great uptake in the Greater Wellington area and are keen to make sure that as many families and whānau as possible have the opportunity to take part. For further information please see the flyer below.
We are also preparing a community notice for another study for children with more severe asthma, due out at the beginning of next term.
