Ngā mihi o te Kirihimete me te Tau Hou.
Have a well earned restful break. We look forward to welcoming students back on the 3rd February 2021. NZ Uniforms will be able to help you with all your uniform requirements for the 2021 school year.

Principal
Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Research does state that if students don't read or write over the summer they will regress. Please ensure your child does a little bit of reading and writing throughout the holidays.
COVID-19 update from the New Zealand Government 13th December 2020 |
Make Summer Unstoppable kicks off The Make Summer Unstoppable campaign has begun! Make Summer Unstoppable - E te whānau, tautokohia te kaupapa - reminds all New Zealanders about doing the right things to keep each other safe. This summer will be our first under COVID-19 conditions. It’s important we look after ourselves and our whānau over the festive season and summer holidays. As New Zealanders we cherish our annual summer holidays. We all want an uninterrupted summer — uninterrupted by the weather and uninterrupted by COVID-19. While we cannot control the weather, we can control COVID-19. Here are four simple things we can all do to keep each other safe: · Scanning QR codes with the NZ COVID Tracer app keeps us one step ahead of the virus. · Turning on Bluetooth tracing on the NZ COVID Tracer app allows you to be notified if you’ve been near another app user who has tested positive for COVID-19. · Staying home if you’re sick and do not travel or take part in activities. · Washing your hands often and regularly is one of the easiest ways to keep yourself safe. This summer, many of us will be travelling around New Zealand and going to big events. Shops will be more crowded than usual, and we’ll be going to more social gatherings. Here are some other things you can do over our first summer under COVID-19 conditions: · Have your phone ready to make scanning QR codes quick and easy. · You could pack a summer essentials bag if you’re travelling, with hand sanitiser, face coverings, cleaning products and a booklet for contact tracing. · Keep hand sanitiser in your pocket or bag. · Shops and events can be very crowded at this time of year, but try and keep your distance from people you do not know. · If you’re hosting a gathering for friends and whānau, create a QR code for your guests to scan in. · If you’re hosting a gathering, consider holding it outdoors. The more space people have, the harder it is for COVID-19 to spread. If you run a business, use our Make Summer Unstoppable resources, including posters, templates, social media tiles and digital banners. Check out our Make Summer Unstoppable page on the Unite Against COVID-19 website. Make Summer Unstoppable at the beach |

We started the fundraiser at the beginning of the year because Covid-19 was affecting people all over the world, and we didn’t want to just sit there and act like nothing was happening. So, we went to one of our teachers, Ms. Scarlett, and asked how we should set up our fundraising group. She told us to do a bake sale, which we did, and were very successful.
Some lunchtimes, we stayed inside to make things like sherbet and stress balls - they usually ended up being very messy, but it was worth it. Usually, many of the items we put on sale sold out, and we ended up making about a hundred dollars a week. But when Covid-19 got worse, we were forced to stop. Luckily, we had made around four hundred dollars and that was a lot to donate to charity - especially when Michael, a man from Caritas, told us our money would be quadrupled. Our bake sale was fun, successful and will help many people around the world.
We went to Ms Scarlett to ask if we could run a fundraising group in Term 4 and she said yes. There were seven of us in the group - six Year 5 boys and girls and one Year 6 boy. We raised $475.00 over seven weeks and learn how to cooperate with each other. Preparing meant that we had to give up some of our lunch hours but we didn’t mind because it was heaps of fun. We feel good because we took action to help make life a little better for those in need.

On Sunday (6th December), Alice played in a Wellington Representative tennis team in the Bob Brown Rosebowl competition against a Hutt Valley representative team.
