Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
A special welcome to Naomi who joined Room 1 on Monday. You will have a wonderful time at Sacred Heart Cathedral School and will make lifelong friends.
I came across this great little visual which certainly embraces our staff and their committment to learning this year.
COVID 19
We are getting close to the end of the school year, and what a year it has been. COVID-19 has put a lot of pressure on our community but together, we have risen to the challenge.
I want to thank you once more, for all you have done to keep yourselves, your whānau and our community as safe as possible. Through reinforcing good hand hygiene, cough and sneeze etiquette, staying away if sick and seeking medical advice, we have kept operating safely, and our students, importantly, continued to learn.
I also extend a specific thank you to all those in our community who have worked in health services and on the frontline to support New Zealand’s defence against COVID-19. They and their families and whānau have sacrificed so much to contribute to our own safety and to support the return home for more than 70,000 New Zealanders.
COVID-19 remains a tricky virus and on the very rare occasion a frontline worker has become infected, the system has kicked into place. Through this vigilance and the health system response, we get to enjoy the relative freedom of Alert Level 1.
I am sure you will join me in giving a special thank you to those individuals for all they have done for us.
Thank you for all your support, raffle tickets are due in this Friday and we have a wonderful Peanut Butter Christmas fundraiser on the go at the moment as well.
I do have a few jars left from our last peanut butter order -3 Super Crunchy and 4 Everything Butter for $11.00 that I can send home straight away with your child. Please email frances@sacred-heart.school.nz if you would like these.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt
Principal
Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Congratulations to all the children who were confirmed at St Thomas More Church or at St Mary of the Angels on Sunday 22 November:
Room 3: Yoshi, Isabella G, Isabella Y, Xavier M, Zoe, Hazel, Lucas, Lucy.
Room 5: Noah B, Ethan, Georgia, Noah T, Pierre, Chanelle, Malchus.
Well done on taking the next stage in your faith journey.
A great evening was had by all. Special thanks to Nicky, Jules and their team of helpers for organising this event.
Year 8 dinner
God our Father we can look back over the last few years since starting at Sacred Heart Cathedral School and recall the friendships we have developed and the way our learning has flourished.
We give thanks to all those who have enriched our lives – at home and at school.
We are grateful and thank each one of these children for all their gifts and talents they have shared with us at school. We are also thankful to our staff who have supported step by step the learning process.
Please bless the parents and families of these children as they support their child with their new secondary school environment.
Please guide and look after all of these children as they leave their familiar surroundings at Sacred Heart Cathedral School and head off to different school. Continue to be an inspiration and help them to always put at the forefront the values we have always promoted here at school to be the best person you can be.
We are hopeful that the children continue to Light the spark and embrace the rest of their educational journey in a positive way in their new school and in a way that is based on great relationships, courage and forgiveness while always endeavouring to make good choices.
We are truly thankful for all who have come together tonight to share and all those who have prepared a meal for us all to share.
Amen.

Last week in Room 2 we were learning the ‘wh’ sound. We learned about Whales. Here is some art we did that went with our whale writing.
Sophia M Room 7, has lost her named, black Kathmandu puffer jacket, size 8. Please check your child's jacket and if found, return it to Room 7. Thank you.
A big thank you to the parents who have dropped off uniform items that their child has grown out of. These second hand uniform items are passed on to other families who are very appreciative of this. If you have any uniform items that your child has grown out of and would be happy to donate to the school, please drop it off to the school office. Many thanks.
