Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
This term, like the year is starting to slip away. It is hard to believe we are heading to the end of October.
This Friday (23rd October), our school is CLOSED for a teacher only day. Please note that Monday, 26th October is a public holiday (Labour Day) so we will see all students on Tuesday, 27th October. Have a wonderful long weekend with your family.
Mrs Geraghty, Ms Regan and Mrs Stephen along with our Year 7 and 8 students are all looking forward to Camp 2020 at Kaitoke YMCA. This powerful outdoor experience will certainly add to the kete of learning for all of students as they move a little out of their comfort zone in a stunning environment. The children leave next Wednesday, 28th October and return next Friday, 30th October. If you have any questions about camp, please don't hesitiate to contact me.
For all your Summer Uniform requirements, please head down to NZ Uniforms, Thorndon. Year 6 girls who will be Year 7 next year, Bernadette Chapman will be making the skirts for us this year as we are still in a transition stage at NZ Uniforms. You can contact Bernadette on 04 9720682. Special thanks for your patience with our Uniform shop being based down at Thorndon Quay. I am aware some families are waiting for backorders on summer stock which are on route to New Zealand. Please be assured that I am in close contact with NZ Uniforms monitoring stock and the service our families are receiving. I also have an enormous amount of second hand uniform that families have donated to pass on to other families. Let us know what you require and we can see if we have it for you in our second hand stock.
Special thanks for your consideration around my drop off and pick up request last week. We have to make sure that we keep our students safe at all times.
Thank you for all you do for our school. If you have any concerns with your child's learning, please contact your child's teacher.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt
Principal
Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
This morning, Jane Regan shared the following with us. There is a little something in this for us all.
4th and possibly 5th of December
As part of Sacred Heart Cathedral seismic strengthening, LT McGuinness will be conducting a crane operation involving part closure of Hill Street. Vehicle access to Hill Street will be maintained for all residents. Please note which end of Hill Street you will access from. Pedestrian access will be maintained on the parliament side of Hill Street throughout the full crane operation. This has been scheduled for the 4th of December. However, if it is too windy, it will be the folllowing day.

Dear Families,
Congratulations to you all for a wonderful celebration of your children’s First Communion. For some of you, this completes your child’s preparations for the 3 sacraments which started with Confirmation last year. May this be the beginning of a rich and fruitful journey in your child’s and your life of faith. Please keep supporting your children. For the others, they complete their programme with Confirmation next month – you will be receiving [if you haven’t already] another set of reminders with regards to this.
Thanks to Maggie [Sadie’s mum] and Geraldine who have shared some photos which I in turn share with you all.
It has been an absolute pleasure to work with you and your children.
Once again, a big congratulations to you all.
Best regards,
Angela
Students are to bring their school hat to school. If your child does not have a school hat, you can purchase one at school for $15.00 each or at NZ Uniforms - https://www.nzuniforms.com. A child who is not wearing a school hat will have to sit in the shade.
It is important that we are all sun smart. By wearing a school sunhat we are reducing exposure to UV radiation and the risk of skin cancer.
Thank you to students who participating in wearing a little pink last week. At Sacred Heart Cathedral School we are trying to ensure that we are an inclusive school, where bullying is not tolerated.
If your child is having a hard time at school please let us know so we can do something about it.
