Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Kia ora koutou.
The board met on 9th September and one of the items we discussed was the use of Connolly Hall by the school. You may remember that the school stopped using the hall in 2018 when the Cathedral roof restraint issue came to light.
The Parish has decided to use Connolly Hall as a chapel while the Cathedral building work takes place.
The Board reviewed the Enhanced Initial Seismic Assessment report on Connolly Hall (from Miyamoto engineers) which rates the hall at 60% NBS and is what would be expected for a well-designed building of this type (wooden structure), era and location. The temporary bracing on the Cathedral roof brings the Cathedral to over 34% NBS. The Board decided that the school could resume use of Connolly Hall as a chapel. The maximum capacity of Connolly Hall is 153 so will only be used by syndicates and classes for masses and liturgies.
If you have any questions about the above, please email or call me (suzanneadair@hotmail.com , 021 039 7558).
Suzanne Adair
Chair of the Board

We really appreciate your ideas which help strengthen what we do going forward.
Your feedback helps to shape the way we operate going forward.
Thanks to student council who organised a 'PJ' day last Thursday (17th September) for the soup kitchen. A BIG THANKS to our parents for your generous support in sending along a can, rice, or pasta which we dropped off to the Soup Kitchen.
This year has been a year like none other in recent times. Covid-19 has had a significant impact on how we interact with others, go about our lives, our work, study and our daily routines, and given this, we think it’s even more important than ever to acknowledge the importance of our mental health. Each year there is a different MHAW theme and for 2020 it is ‘Reimagine Wellbeing Together- He Tirohanga Anamata.’ He Tirohanga Anamata means a glance into our future. It recognises Māori wellbeing principles and philosophies of past, present and future, and welcomes the notion of progressing forward, together. It’s a great opportunity for us all to redefine and rediscover what wellbeing looks and feels like – during Covid-19 and beyond.
Here at Sacred Heart Cathedral School we have 5 ways to take care of me
1: Connect. Talk and listen. Be there feel connected.
2: Be thankful. Thank God for all the blessings in your life.
3: Stay active . Enjoy what you do. Exercise. Move your mood.
4: Be a life long learner. Try new experiences. See opportunities. Surprise yourself.
5: Share. Your time, your words, your presence.
Thank you for your cash donations to our Sacred Heart Cathedral School Parish. We were able to raise $561.00. We greatly appreciate your generosity.

Ben Burn Park, Wednesdays 6pm. Season starts 14th October & runs for 2 terms.
Do you know a child who loves to run, jump, throw? Or do you know a child who would benefit from having an evening off screens each week? Would you like your family to spend more active time together?
The Karori Athletics Club provides a fun environment with a mixture of games for ages 6 & under and track & field athletics for children from 7-15 years old. Keen athletes can access specialist coaching & represent Karori by competing in Inter-club events & other competitions during the season.
Parents measure & time, supervise & guide, encourage & cheer the kids on. It’s a lot of fun & there’s even a sausage sizzle!
The Club meets weekly at Ben Burn Park in Karori on Wednesday nights (6.00pm-7.30pm) over the summer from October to March.

Marrzipan Drama Classes Starting Back in Term 4!
Marrzipan have gained a huge reputation in New Zealand for the development of shy children, especially those with anxiety, autism and selective mutism. Saying that, this is a class for the super crazy and dramatic types too, as we focus on positive leadership and social skills. Our classes focus on inner and outer self-confidence, and are super fun and exciting for children. Parents are kept up to date with weekly emails about what’s been covered in class and why, as well as what you can work on at home. We have two awesome showcases at the end of every term too, so you can see your child’s development first hand.
In the event we return to a Level 3 lockdown - no need to fear! Our classes will continue online via Zoom until we can return to school!
Classes will be running on Fridays 11.55-12.40am in The Library.
Spaces are limited, so please get in touch via our website to secure your child’s space, or call our superstar Office Team to give you the lowdown on why your child simply MUST give it a go.
