Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Prime Minister's Announcement about Reading Ambassadors
"Today, a small group of senior students - Liai, Claudia, Maia, Alice, Katie, Rupert, Blair, Sophie M, Kezia and Lynda, went to The National Library to celebrate reading. We were joined by the astonishing prime minister Jacinda Arden, Bill McNaught the National Librarian and Tracy Martin the Minister of Internal Affairs. It started off with some amazing books being displayed then we were soon seated and the event began. We started with a karakia then we were welcomed by Mr. McNaught and he said his speech. Next, we had Tracey Martin, some students from Huntley College and some other schools and Jacinda who said their speeches. But what really inspired me was the speech from the student from Huntly College who said that reading was his armor because reading is a safe place and a distraction. All of the speeches were spectacular and inspired me alot. When we got around to Jacinda's speech, she made an amazing announcement about appointing a “Reading Ambassador.” After we got something to eat and drink."

This year's theme is “Kia pūāvai tō tātou Reo Māori Kūki ‘Āirani i Aotearoa”, which means “That the Cook Islands Māori language may blossom throughout New Zealand.”
The Cook Islands community are the second largest Pacific ethnic group in New Zealand making up 20% of the Pacific population (Census 2013).
There are three distinct Polynesian languages spoken in the Cook Islands:
- Cook Islands Māori is an Eastern Polynesian language with a number of dialects. This language belongs to the same language family as New Zealand Māori and the languages of Hawai‘i and Tahiti.
- Pukapuka is a Western Polynesian language, belonging to the same language family as the languages of Sāmoa, Tuvalu, and Tokelau.
- Palmerston Island has its own unique and distinctive mixture of Cook Islands Māori and English.
Room 7 attended a Cook Islands dance at the Ministry of Education, yesterday.

Congratulations to Jack Rm 9. After attending trials over the last two weekends, Jack has been selected for the Wellington Hockey U13 representative training squad. He will train over the remainder of term 3 with the squad and then attend a regional tournament in the October School holidays. Well done Jack!
Congratulations to Malchus in Room 5, who has achieved a GOLD certificate in both Mathletics and Reading Eggs. Excellent work, Malchus!
Central Zone Cross Country Results
Last Tuesday, around 50 students represented Sacred Heart Cathedral School at the Central Zone Cross Country Championships which took place at Liardet Park in Berhampore.
The day was fine and clear with a slight chill in the air. The course was wet and muddy - perfect conditions for cross country running!
As always, we are very proud of the way our students conducted themselves, both on and off the course. Congratulations to all and well done to the following runners who have qualified for the Interzone Competition:
Year 5: Lucas 10th
Year 6: Lachlan M 2nd
Year 7: Yulia 1st, Ryder 3rd and Flynn 7th
Year 8: Maddi M 1st, Katie 5th, Charlize 9th and Tyler 10th
Thank you to Nigel Ingram for making sure that students made it to their races on time, to Nicola Nation for supervising and making sure our space was kept dryish and to all other parents who supported and supervised students.
