Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
It is lovely to see all of our students back refreshed for a new term.
I hope you all had an opportunity to fill your bucket with all the things you love doing. We look forward to all the opportunities the second half of 2020 will bring to us all.
Our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) kit has arrived that we purchased from EPro8. We are looking forward to students across our school being innovative and creative.

Special thanks for the incredible donation our school gave the Parish food bank. By pulling together we are able to make a real difference to families within the Sacred Heart Cathedral School Parish. Thank you Room 1 for delivering all the items to Father David, Debbie and Frank.
Father God ask you to please bless our learners, their families and our staff.
Please keep us all safe and healthy. Thank you for bringing us all back to school refreshed and ready for a new term.
Heavenly Father, please continue to give us strength and courage to do what is right and be witnesses to our faith. May we always work to serve you, our colleagues, students and families in everything that we do.
Amen.
E hara taku toa i te toa takitahi, engari he toa takimano
Our strength does not come from ourselves alone, our strength derives from many.
This Whakatauki sums me up as I feel very blessed to be part of a school community who give me strength.
I am grateful to our staff who are committed to doing their best for our students.
I am grateful to our students who are open to new ways of learning and challenge themselves to be the best they can be.
I am grateful to our parent community who support learning and events here at school.
I am grateful to our Board of Trustees who focus on ensuring that precious resources are distributed in a way that is fair and equitable.
I am grateful to our Parents and Friends who fundraise to provide extras for our children and show pastoral care that makes a real difference to families at our school.
I am looking forward to seeing families next week as teachers follow up on interim reports that were sent home at the end of term two.

Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt
Principal
Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.

A big CONGRATULATIONS to Laika, Room 9 who entered an online writing competition based in the United States and was awarded second prize in the competition! Well done, Laika.
"During the holidays, I entered an on-line writing competition that was based in America and it was to write a short story with the theme of 'Twisted Summer.' Most of the entrants were over 13, while I was just about the youngest. They graded everyone based on grammar, concept, story line and punctuation. Overall I was placed 2nd, with a score of 38/45."

Book Title: The Midnight Summer Past.
“Finally, it’s summer holidays!” Amaya said walking beside her friend Hadley.
“Yas girl! My parents are taking me to a hotel down south. It used to be some sort of beach house, apparently the tide was too high.” Hadley sighed.
“Well, bye girl!” Amaya said walking to the bus stop.
“Bye!” Hadley said running the other way.
“We’re almost there!” Her mum said smiling at her.
“Okay.” Hadley said as she twirled her blonde curly hair.
“We’re-” The intercom said as it started malfunctioning.
“Welcome to Aisha Airlines! I’m your new-”
“And, so remember to take all your belongings!” The intercom said as if nothing happened.
“Mum! Did you hear that!?” Hadley said shocked.
“Hear what? Yeah, we’re landing soon!” Her mum said surprised.
“No, no. Haha, I was just daydreaming.” Hadley said laughing a little too much.
Hadley started to wonder, was this something because of last year?
The portraits of children who looked bland and perfected were all just the same backgrounds, but different kids.
“Here are your rooms!” The man said as he opened the door.
“Thank you!” Her mother said as she tugged Hadley along.
The room had a 1956 vibe, and a picture of a girl that Hadley couldn’t figure out who it was. On the other side of the ragged curtains, was the pool that wasn’t so relaxing looking.
“Ugh, I can’t sleep! The bed is so weird.” Hadley said annoyed.
Hadley went to open the window, when she saw a girl who she recognized back near the door. Hadley crept silently to look at the painting.
“That’s - No! It can’t be… Aisha?” Hadley asked herself as she looked at the peculiar painting. Hadley grabbed her coat.
“Is this what this is about?” Hadley asked herself as she took out a worn out teddy bear.
