Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
2020 what a year "history in the making" as our population increases and we are now officially a nation of 5 million people.
Our week has gone really well. Blessed again with another beautiful day. It gets very chilly at the end of the day, please make sure your child brings their black school jacket to school every day. As a staff we are completely blown away with what you achieved during Alert Levels 4 and 3. We have many natural teachers in our community. Thank you so much for the way you supported our staff and your child during our time in Distance Learning .
We have given out a large selection of second hand uniform recently to parents who have been very appreciative of this. Our second hand winter uniform items are pretty much depleted now, so if you have any uniform items that your child/children has/have grown out of and are happy to donate it to the school, please drop it off to the school office. New uniform with the exception of the winter tunic is all available for purchase down at NZ Uniforms, Thorndon. If you require a winter tunic please let us know and we can put you in contact with a supplier. NZ uniforms will be providing the tunic but it has taken us a little bit of time to get the tartan an exact replica of what we currently have.
In the beginning, you were by God;
You were created in God's image and likeness;
You were created to become a human person with a heart, a mind, a face, hands and feet all of your very own.
Teacher Only Days
Next Friday, 29 May is a Teacher Only Day, staff will be participating in Professional Learning with a focus on assessment this is part of the Accord negotiated between the Ministry of Education and the New Zealand Educational Institute. Please also note the last day of term is Thursday, 2 July.
I have loved catching up with families over the fence. Thank you so much for dropping your child at the gate or completing contact tracing if you come onto site.
Have a great week
Take care
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Message from Chairperson of Sacred Heart's Board of Trustees
Kia ora koutou
It is so nice to welcome back our staff, students and families to the physical school environment in Level 2. I have seen so many happy faces on students and staff at the school gate this week.
I know that Covid-19 and the lockdown has affected us all in different ways and I hope that your child has had a settled start back at school.
The Board would like to thank our teachers and all staff members for their work during Level 3 and 4 and in their work planning for the return to school. I know that teaching from home has required a lot of organisation, upskilling and extra work. We look forward to hearing more from the teachers about what worked, what didn’t work and what teaching insights they gained during lockdown. Thank you also for looking after our children so well now that they are back at school. The current situation has once again highlighted to me, that we have a staff team that put the children’s wellbeing at the heart of what they do. Thank you!
The Board met on 5 May for a full board meeting and again on 12 May to discuss the Level 2 plan which Bernadette has shared with you.
The 2019 Annual Accounts have undergone the usual audit process and we will share these with you when they have been finalised later this month.
If you have any questions about the above, please email or call me (suzanneadair@hotmail.com , 021 039 7558).
Suzanne Adair
Chair of Board
Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.

SchoolApps Covid 19 Check-In Module
When visiting the school, to 'check in' via the SchoolApp, you will need the latest version of SchoolApps on your phone. You can do this either by scanning the QR code or going directly to the App Store/Google Play, enter SchoolAppsNZ and it will let you know if you need to 'update' the app. Once you have updated to the latest version, the 'COVID-19 Check-in' will appear in your menu and you will only need to enter your personal details once, then this will be stored on your phone. You do need to enter something in the 'Reason' field each time.
While the numbers of new cases continue to remain low, we have to remain vigilant as a school community. Our response is also reliant on everyone in New Zealand doing their part to prevent spread.
This includes staying away from school if unwell and if showing COVID-like symptoms being assessed by a GP or Healthline to determine if testing is recommended. The symptoms for COVID-19 have expanded as more has become known about the virus. Symptoms noted on the Ministry of Health website are:
- a cough
- a high temperature (at least 38˚C)
- shortness of breath
- a sore throat
- sneezing and runny nose
- temporary loss of smell.
Name suggestions for 'Baby Grevatt'
Dear Mr Grevatt and Thērēse,
I know there is a lot of hesitation and indecision when choosing what to
name your baby - I know myself because I was trying to get my parents to
name my little sister “Snowy.” They, of course, said no, but that is not the
subject of this letter.
If your baby is a girl, I would like you to name her Nicole. I don’t know why,
but I think that the name “Nicole Grevatt” sounds good. I also think that
the name “Nicole” also sounds nice.
Nicole is a popular name, and if there are too many Nicoles, I suggest you
name your child Nicola. If there are no Nicoles, then you should definitely
name your child Nicole because then she will be an individual - unique.
I just want you to know that if your child is a boy, I have the perfect
name : Harry Potter. Harry Potter is a very famous name, you know. He’s a
wizard! Other people have ordinary names like Molly or Pete. Harry Potter
Grevatt would be an EXTRA - ordinary name. You could paint a fake scar
on his head or see if he has magic powers, too.
If your child doesn’t appreciate what I did for him/her, it’s not my fault!
From,
Tammy
Dear Mr. Grevatt,
I wrote this to you today to persuade you to name your baby
Potato if it’s a boy and Danielle Junior if it’s a girl.
And I have some pretty good reasons. The first reason you
should name your baby Potato if it’s a boy is because Potato is
a very cute name for a baby. And the second reason is because
the baby will probably be the only baby named Potato in the
world because the name is extremely unique.
If it’s a girl, you should name her Danielle Junior because
Danielle is the best name in the entire world. And named after
the greatest person in history. Me. The last reason is because
the name has a great meaning which means “The Lord is my
judge”.
If you don’t name your baby these names then you should feel
ashamed because they’re great names for babies.
Yours Sincerely,
Danielle
Dear Mr. Grevatt,
If you are having trouble naming your baby I am here to
help you. Actually I am so good at naming babies I
should be called “the baby namer.” Anyway, we are
getting off track we should be talking about naming
babies not talking about how good I am at naming
babies.
If it is a girl she should be called Bodkin. If you name
her Bodkin she will be named after my grandma’s dog.
Who is very cute! If you name her Bodkin she might be
cuter than cute.
If it is a boy he should be called Pedilington. If you
chose Pedilington he will be named after the guy who
built Grandma’s house. But sadly grandma just sold the
house. If you chose that name for him he might be a
builder.
I know you will regret not choosing these names. If you
don’t choose these names you are putting your baby at
a huge disadvantage. They don’t call me the ‘Baby
namer’ for nothing.
Yours sincerely,
Edward, or the Baby namer
