Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
What a week we have had!!
Special thanks to the staff at Sacred Heart Cathedral School, they have kept calm and carried on. On top of a busy workload staff worked so hard to put our distance learning packs together for our students.
The Ministry of Education have moved the last day of term to this Friday 27 March.
School holidays are now 30 March until the 14 April - there will be no work set by teachers during this time. You will recieve your child's goal sheet on Monday 30 March as this was the date our staff agreed to send these out before the holidays were changed.
We will continue to work online until the government announces we can return to our school buildings again.
On a more personal note I am so encouraged by our amazing staff, Board of Trustees and parent community who are all doing things as normal as possible for our students, while planning ahead for an eventuality which is unprecedented, but would offer us, as educators, rich opportunities for growth. The local, national and global education community is generously sharing the valuable experiences gained over the last few weeks as schools in various countries have moved to remote learning, and we are adopting a ‘Brave, not perfect’ mindset as we start off on this journey ourselves.
Keep everything balanced. Do what you can and don't worry if you have days when you can't stick to the routines suggested.
Playing board and card games, skipping, dancing, cooking, playing with lego are all great learning experiences for your child.
Lastly can I ask you all to Stay Calm, Be Safe, and Wash Your Hands.
Take care of yourselves and each-other
I wanted to leave you with a little reflection from the Prayer book Father James compiled.
Rain Dance
I know that they say
not to wait for the storm to pass,
but how can I dance through the rain?
O God, please help me not to be scared.
Help me to clear the storm
so I can dance.
Be my umbrella - to the end.
