Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
We have had such a positive start to our 2020 school year. Classes are humming as teachers are establishing expectations and routines.
Special thanks to our dedicated staff who gave very detailed, explicit overviews on Monday evening. These will be very informative as we work together for the good of each child.
Over summer, I have been supporting my Dad with his health and I have been attending Mass with him at Sts. Peter and Paul, Lower Hutt. Dad still sits in the same pew as I did when I was a child. On Sunday, Father Patrick spoke about how we are all so special and unique - "You are the salt of the earth." In times of difficulty if we are all rooted in faith, hope and love then joy will continue to be present. As I drove back home, I pondered on what Father Patrick said and how as a family we are facing a few challenges and how important it is to maintain inner strength and positivity. I need to make sure that my actions and words as a daughter, wife, mother, auntie, friend, colleague and Principal bring light rather than darkness.
Thank you for choosing Sacred Heart Cathedral School and entrusting our team to support you in helping to shape your child to be the best they can be.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
On Monday, we had a beautiful Treaty signing Liturgy. Special thanks to Father David and our student liturgy leaders who reminded us that a Treaty is about promises, relationships and responsibilities. We all have to work on these qualities to become people God wants us to be.
"God of all people,
God of love, just as the colours of a rainbow, blend and merge to form one rainbow.
So too may the colours of our different cultures and beliefs blend and merge in our families and our communities throughout our world.
Through mutual respect and acceptance,
So we may come together in true harmony.
Amen."

The Parents and Friends Committee invite all senior students and parents/caregivers to a pool party at Thorndon pool on Friday, 21 February from 5-7pm. This will be a great opportunity to welcome new faces to the senior syndicate and catch up on what will hopefully be a warm Wellington evening. Pay your own pool entry (children $3.70, adults $6, spectators free) and we will provide a sausage sizzle. BYO water/soft drinks. RSVP for catering purposes to Cathy (cathy@sacred-heart.school.nz stating name of child and numbers attending). Please note that each child attending must have a parent/caregiver present. Also if you are able to help out with this event, please give Cathy a call and let her know on 472 4047. Thanks.
Tony Naughton comes into school each Friday, lunchtime to take children for tennis lessons. If you are interested in enrolling your child for tennis lessons, please email Tony: tnsquash@gmail.com or phone him on (04) 384 5233.
