Dear Parents/Caregivers,

We had a beautiful liturgy to celebrate the importance of Grandparents. We are very appreciative to all those Grandparents who travelled to be with us for our liturgy. Thank you Parents and Friends for organising afternoon tea. 

During the month of October we pray the Rosary. Through the Rosary we are able to learn traditional prayers of our church. It is also an opportunity to remember key events during the life of Jesus. Praying the Rosary is another opportunity to be still, quiet and reflective.

To illustrate the absolute importance of recognising our connection with one another, Jesus tells a story about a person who had more than enough for comfort and ease, and another who was at the gate of the well-off person, who ignored him, with nothing except a sore-ridden body.  Jesus named the sickly person Dives; he had no name for the other.  [Luke 16:19-31]

Names identify.  They mark us as individuals, contributing to our sense of self-worth and making it possible to link up with others.  Not to have a name is to be isolated, marooned; to be a nobody.

The story doesn’t recognise Dives for his wealth or social standing, but for himself – a person in his own right.  The other, not accepting any responsibility for another human person, especially one in need, loses all value, becomes a “no-body”.

At school we learn each other’s names.  With some we will become life-long friends.  Remember the importance of a name and you will be less likely to forget the person, especially one in need.

Dear God,

You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.

Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.

Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.

Our Kapa Haka Performance group will be particiapting in a Cultural Festival at Holy Cross School in Miramar on Wednesday 30 October. Our group will be perfroming at 11.50 am. Parents are most welcome to join us over at Holy Cross School or catch the bus with us.  We will leave school at 8.50am and will return at 2.00 pm.

This annual drill helps our students to practice how to be safe in an earthquake.

When communicating in the cyber world it is important that our students are aware of the following:

The 10 principles say that a digital communication should not:

1. disclose sensitive personal facts about a person;
2. be threatening, intimidating, or menacing;
3. be grossly offensive;
4. be indecent or obscene;
5. be used to harass a person;
6. make a false allegation;
7. breach confidences;
8. incite or encourage anyone to send a deliberately harmful message;
9. incite or encourage a person to commit suicide; and
10. denigrate a person’s colour, race, ethnic or national origins, religion, gender, sexual orientation or disability.

All students are required to  wear a school sunhat it is part of our summer uniform. Sunhats can be purchased from the school office $15.00.

For regular users, cost is $55.00 per child per week.  Early pick ups for regular users (collected by 3.30pm), cost is $30.00 per child per week.  Please note that Robyn, our After School Care supervisor, does run a discount system for families with more than one children who regularly attend.  Casual attendance $15.00 per child per session.  For casual attendance, please email Robyn:  robynjones1952@gmail.com and please cc cathy@sacred-heart.school.nz in on your email.  Also, please include in your email, if this is due to a change in your after school plan on the day and if your child/children needs to be informed that he/she/they need to go to ASC.  This ensures that the school is aware of after school care arrangements on a casual basis.

The Brendan Foot Supersite Round the Bays event is Wellington’s iconic fun run/walk. Our 2020 event will be held on Sunday 16^th February. There are options for ages and abilities which means the whole family can get involved. Our course options include a 6.5km fun run/walk, 6.5km buggy walk, 6.5km active families course, 10km or half marathon. This year those participating in the 6.5km are encouraged to come dressed up as a fruit or vegetable in our attempt to break the Guinness World Record for largest gathering of people dressed as fruit and veg!
