Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.

Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
What a wonderful start we have had to the term. The weather cooperated, allowing us to get outside during breaks.
A special welcome to Grace and Harry, (Room 3) and to Olivia (Room 1) who joined our school on Monday, 21 July. You will love being at our school and will make lifelong friends.
We are looking forward to our Musical Bingo tomorrow and Grandparents' Liturgy on Friday.
There will be limited parking on the school grounds for our liturgy.
Special thanks to our amazing Grandparents and the contributions you make to our school. It is so appreciated.
God of love,
We thank you for our wonderful grandparents.
They bring such joy and happiness into our lives.
Thank you for all the special times that we have with them.
Please watch over them, protect them and care for them now.
May they know your goodness and love always.
Today is Principal Appreciation Day. There was a very special gathering for me today where I received cards and best wishess. I am so grateful for the school I work in. The passionate staff, amazing students and totally supportive community wrap me up in a korowai of faith and love. I am very lucky. Blessings to you all.
Have a wonderful week and I look forward to seeing many families over the next few days.

Tumuaki
Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Good day, everyone!
If you haven’t met us before, my name is Janiva and my name is Isaac. Today, we would like to share a speech with you about a special person at Sacred Heart Cathedral School.
Today is a very special day, and we are truly honoured to be standing here on behalf of all the students to celebrate, our principal, Mrs Murfitt.
We all know that being a principal is a huge job. There are a lot of things to take care of every single day, like making sure the school runs smoothly, that everyone is learning safely, and that teachers have what they need to help us grow. But what makes our principal extra special is the way she does all of that, not just with hard work, but with aroha.
She doesn’t go a day without making sure everyone is having fun with their learning. She walks around the school, checks in on classes, and always has time to say hello. She listens when we speak, she notices when we try our best, and she always encourages us to be kind, brave, and to keep learning.
Whether it is Movin’ March, Cross Country, or just a normal Monday, she’s always there supporting us, celebrating us, and making sure our school is a place where everyone feels welcome and included.
She makes time for all the little things that matter so much: a conversation in the hallway, a smile when we’re nervous, or kind words when we’ve had a rough day. Those small moments stay with us, and they show us what great leadership really looks like.
She also helps our teachers be their very best. She supports them, listens to their ideas, and helps them create fun and exciting lessons so that school is something we all look forward to. Even when we don’t see it, she’s working hard behind the scenes to make things better for you and me.
Our principal is intelligent, strong, and resilient but also gentle, kind, and full of care. She leads with her heart, and that’s something we all feel every day in our classrooms, on the playground, and throughout our whole school.
So today, on Principal’s Day, we just want to say the biggest Thank You!
Thank you for your time, your energy, and your patience. Thank you for believing in us and for helping us believe in ourselves. Thank you for making our school a place we’re proud to be part of.
You make a difference every single day and we’re so lucky to have a principal like you.
Happy Tumuaki Day!
Attendance continues to be a top priority for the government, which has set a target of 80% of students attending school for more than 90% of the term by 2030. To achieve this, schools must aspire to reach an average daily attendance rate above 94%.
Last week, 14th-18th July, we were 92.01%.
Please use SchoolAppsNZ to report your child's absence to the school. Thank you.

MID-WINTER SPORTS FESTIVAL:
Yesterday, a group of Year 5 & 6 students participated in the Mid-Winter Sports Festival at Ākau Tangi Sports Centre.
NETBALL:
Sacred Heart Marvels (Year 5 & 6) - The Marvels returned to action on Saturday for their first game since the Matariki break, facing off against the Brooklyn Ninjas in what proved to be a hard-fought battle. After some early rust showed with the team trailing by 2 points at the end of the first quarter, the Marvels gradually found their rhythm and mounted a steady comeback throughout the match.
The persistence paid off as they clawed their way back to secure a well-earned 5-5 draw, showing great character to overcome their slow start and shake off the cobwebs from the break.
Player of the day goes to Mirabel (Room 6) for her outstanding work in mid-court defence and solid performance in goal. Special mention to Colette (Room 5) for her great perseverance in attack around the goal and in centre, proving crucial to the team's fightback.
Sacred Heart Aces (Year 7 & 8) - Great start to Term 3 Aces! Well done to the team for their hard work, finishing top of the table in B Grade, meaning we have been promoted to A Grade.
It was an evenly matched game on Saturday, with Ngā Mokopuna pulling away to win 18-13. Our player of the day was Iris (Room 9) for a consistent game and some incredible intercepts in Q3 and Q4. Ka rawe, Iris! A well-deserved magic moment to Kundiso (Room 8), who slotted a beautiful goal from well out in the circle, as chosen by our captain, Layana (Room 8). Go Aces!
BASKETBALL:
Sacred Heart Dunkin Donuts (Year 7 & 8) played against St Benedict’s. They had a good win of 24-12. Jaiden (Room 9) was the player of the day.

Amaia (Room 3), competed in her first Rhythmic Gymnastics Competition last weekend. She placed in the top two for her year group. A photo of her in action. Well done Amaia!
JUDO GRADING:
After 6 months of steady progress, Eli (Room 10) received his first grading in Judo last night (yellow tip). He has displayed hard work and resilience over this time, and it's wonderful seeing Eli enjoying his Judo. He's planning on experiencing his first competition this weekend! Well done, Eli and good luck with your competition this weekend.
