A Reflection from Father James
“Only faith can guarantee the blessings that we hope for, or prove the existence of the realities that at present remain unseen.” [Hebrews, 11:1] This statement, written before the end of the first century, is relevant in our own time when nothing less than certainty is expected.
As privacy becomes more and more threatened through the invasion of social media, and transparency is demanded of every institution in the wake of much mismanagement and dishonesty, the feeling that we have a right to everything, and that nothing should be hidden, is pervasive.
Yet, every discovery or revelation opens up further questions. The mysteries surrounding life – notably the basics: What am I here for and where am I going? – cannot be penetrated by any amount of human science and thought.
Perhaps we should pay more attention to faith. It is the gift of a loving God to ease the frustration of doubt and enable us to rest in the security that real love offers. Faith doesn’t oppose certainty; it is the God-given backup for those who accept they are only human and cannot know all the answers.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Congratulations to Alessandra, Irene, Tyler and Annabelle who were superb oral ambassadors for our school last Wednesday at the Central Zone Speech Competition. Tyler was placed first in the Year 7 category for his speech on "Maybe."

Can we please work together and ensure that all students are in correct school uniform. Lately, I have seen students not wearing their tie and wearing colourful hoodies and sweatshirts. Our school uniform includes a tie, black shoes, green school jersey and a plain black jacket. If you need any help with uniform requirements, please let us know as we have a large selection of second hand available.

Thank you to those families who are really making an effort to get their children to school on time for an action packed day of learning.
Please encourage your child to keep learning their Rugby facts for our upcoming quiz.
Have a great week
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt
Principal
Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Sacred Heart Cathedral School is part of the Wellington City Catholic Community of Learning.
Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
This morning Christine Geraghty shared the following reflection with staff. Please find attached 10 great tips that help to build resilience.
Room 5 Digital Technologies Curriculum
As part of the new Digital Technologies Curriculum, we did some "unplugged" programming in the classroom. Different children had a turn at playing the 'developer' and instructed the 'bot' where to go on their grid, using the program that they have written.
Here, Nina is our Developer and she is instructing Joshua, our bot, on how to get from his starting point to the candle.
It seemed easy at first but we soon realised that there were many directional problems along the way that we would need to 'debug.' Our children are so keen now and eager to learn.

Congratulations to Annabelle, Nathan, Julianne, Eva, Cara and Noah who participated in the Mathswell competition at Newlands Intermediate last Thursday evening. Special thanks to Mrs Geraghty who prepared the students in advance to work as a team to solve complex problems.
"On Wednesday last week, Annabelle, Nathan, Julianne, Eva, Cara and I, went to the yearly problem solving competition Mathswell. We had to solve maths questions under time pressure. We competed against 25-30 schools and had a lot of fun. It was a great experience and taught us a lot.

The Senior syndicate are planning a unit of work around careers and are wondering if anyone could host classes to their places of work or if anyone could come in and talk to us about their jobs - about a 10-20 minute talk with questions. Please email Mrs. Geraghty if you can help: christine@sacred-heart.school.nz. Thank you.

It was a great opportunity to go over to Parliament to celebrate the winning of the Netball World Cup. Some of our Year 5 & 6 students were given the privilege of participating in a training session with some of our "Silver Ferns." All of our students were taught so many life lessons by these great advocates of netball while being positive role models for us all.

" We can be anything we want to be if we work hard." - Maia
" Never give up." - Sasha
"Dont give up even if you are not winning." - Georgia
A special thank you to all the parents who have emailed us different footage on this event. Check out the Silver Ferns facebook page - a parent has informed us there are loads of photos of Sacred Heart children here.
Another parent kindly emailed us the link below. Great coverage of the school yesterday at the netball.
Radio NZ interviewed some of them and uploaded the video to YouTube – see at 4min 30secs.
