Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Welcome to Hannah (Room 7), Henry, and Jasper (both Room 1), who started on Monday. You will love your time at Sacred Heart Cathedral School and make lifelong friends.
Today, we celebrate Catholic Schools Day. We have a wonderful history here at Sacred Heart Cathedral School. Our school was established in 1870. I was very fortunate to have attended Catholic Schools myself, with my Primary School being Sts Peter and Paul and Sacred Heart College in Lower Hutt. We are part of a very special community, and I thank you for the aroha and support you give me every single day.
Dear Lord,
We thank You and praise You for the gift of our Catholic faith.
We ask You to bless and assist all Catholic schools in their important work of teaching the faith.
The work of Catholic schools is very significant for our Church. The instruction in the faith and formation of souls that faithful Catholic schools carry out is vital for the health of our Church. You can help all faithful Catholic schools to continue the very important work they are doing.
Please help all Catholic schools to flourish in every way, and we particularly ask today that You help all faithful Catholic schools to continued their good work.
Help us to always do all we can to bring souls to You and help build up Your Kingdom.
Give us the grace to do all things in our lives out of love for You.
Lord, hear our prayers!
We were all set for our talent quest on Catholic Schools Day this morning.
We have so much talent at our school - it really is impressive.
Have a wonderful week. Keep warm and keep dry.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Attendance continues to be a top priority for the government, which has set a target of 80% of students attending school for more than 90% of the term by 2030. To achieve this, schools must aspire to reach an average daily attendance rate above 94%.
In term 1 this year, 63 students had perfect attendance at school. They are all in the 100% club.
Last week, 19th-23rd May, we were 84.77%.
If your child is absent from school, please contact the school to let us know the reason for your child's absence. You can do this in a number of ways:
1. Download SchoolAppsNZ on your mobile phone (Apple and Andriod). Click to open the SchoolAppsNZ, click on Absentee, click email and fill out the fields; or click call office. If you choose to call the office, please stay on the line and press 2, to leave a message on the school answerphone.
2. Call the school landline at 04 472 4047 and follow the instructions above.
3. Email office@sacred-heart.school.nz.
It is important for the school office to know the reason for your child's absence so that it can be coded correctly.
Sacred Heart Cathedral School is planning its traditional Matariki Celebration on the evening of Tuesday, 17th June.
As the event will begin at 5.30 PM with an outdoor liturgy, we would like to have toasted sandwiches and hot drinks available whilst whānau enjoy the activities being held at school afterwards to warm everyone up.
Please contact Sue Cranney at suec@sacred-heart.school.nz if you can assemble sandwiches, make hot drinks or help with the cooking on the night.
Please also let us know if you are happy to be on a serving roster for the evening.
Ngā mihi,
Sue Cranney
We have a reported case of headlice. Please check your child's hair for eggs or headlice and treat it if found. The following link contains helpful information on headlice and how to get rid of them.
MANDARIN:
In Room 6, the students learnt some fun games with chopsticks during our Mandarin session with Miko.
FUTSAL:
Over the last three weeks, the students have been taking part in a Futsal clinic at Sacred Heart. All classes have participated in a 30-minute session each week to learn new skills and engage in games of Futsal.

Reminder: Philippine Ambassador Visiting Tonight at 5:30 PM
There will be no sausage sizzle tomorrow as our seniors will be engaged in different activities on the day.
A quick reminder that the Middles have our trip to Summerset on the Landing this Friday, the 30th May. This trip is to celebrate Matariki with the residents and share some songs and stories with the community.
We will leave school at 8.55 AM to catch a train to Kenepuru Station. Please ensure your child is on time for school on Friday so they can make the trip.
We will catch the 11.41 AM train from Kenepuru Station back to Wellington Station, and we plan to arrive back at school around noon.
Students should wear their school uniform and bring a waterproof jacket. If they have PE in the afternoon, they will have time to change at school when they return.
Students need to bring a small named bag of food for the trip, they will eat their lunch once back at school, so just a small snack would be great. If your child has any health issues, please make sure they bring their required medication.
We still have some families who have not filled out the permission slip. Please fill in the permission slip ASAP - Middle Syndicate Sommerset Visit 2025.
Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to help on the day.
