Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Special thanks to all our whānau who supported us at our beautiful Mother's Day Liturgy. Thanks also to our amazing team who organised and served morning tea. It is such a great opportunity for us all to get together. The day was even more special as we could explain and speak with our students about Pope Leo. To all our Mums, Grandmothers, Aunties, and Significant Women - thank you for all that you do to support the learning and engagement of our students.
We welcome Tshepiso (Room 1), who started yesterday. You are going to love your time at Sacred Heart Cathedral School and will make lifelong friends.
Thanks for all your support around attendance. We have had slight improvements from this time last year. We do need to work on our punctuality.
Congratulations to Melissa (teacher in Room 10) who has received a scholarship to study the New Zealand Certificate in Christian Studies - Religious Education (NZCCS-RE) from Te Kupenga (Catholic Theological College).
Special thanks to our Board of Trustees, who approved the installation of new carpet in our school library. It's looking great!
Have a wonderful week and please reach out if you have any concerns.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Sacred Heart Cathedral School
We will offer the "Seasons for Growth" programme later this year.
This is a programme for children who have experienced major change, or suffered loss or grief.
The programme which will be facilitated by Catholic Social Services, and will help to strengthen the social and emotional well-being of children who are navigating major change, loss or grief in their lives. The course runs for 8 weeks one hour per week and will be during school hours.
If you would be interested in your child participating, please reach out to Bernadette - Bernadette.Murfitt@sacred-heart.school.nz or Nik Solia - nik@sacred-heart.school.nz.
If your child is absent from school, please contact the school to let us know the reason for your child's absence. You can do this a number of ways:
1. Clicking on the SchoolApps on your smartphone, click on Absentee, click email and fill out the fields; or click call office. If you choose to call the office, please stay on the line and press 2, to leave a message on the school answerphone.
2. Call the school landline at 04 4724047 and follow instructions above.
3. Email office@sacred-heart.school.nz.
It is important for the school office to know the reason for your child's absence so this can be coded correctly.
Attendance continues to be a top priority for the government, which has set a target of 80% of students attending school more than 90% of the term by 2030. To achieve this, schools need to aspire to reach an average daily attendance rate above 94%.
Last week, 5th-9th May, we were 89.76%.
Board Feedback from Our 2025 Community Survey
Thank you so much for all the amazing ideas you gave us.
If you have a girl's winter and summer uniform that would fit a 5-year old or an 8-year old that your child has grown out of and would be happy to donate to the school, please drop it off to the office.
Any other uniform items that you have at home that no longer fit your child would be much appreciated. Thank you!
