Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update From Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Welcome back to term 2. We also welcome Enari (Room 1) and Ropati (Room 9). Both of you are going to love your time at Sacred Heart Cathedral School and will make life long friends.
I hope you had a wonderful break over Easter. The staff have been busy planning an exciting term for our students.
Remembering Pope Francis: A Humble Shepherd of Peace - the spiritual leader of over a billion Catholics around the world. Known for his humility, compassion, and dedication to social justice, Pope Francis touched hearts far beyond the walls of the Vatican.
Born Jorge Mario Bergoglio in Argentina, he made history in 2013 by becoming the first pope from the Americas and the first Jesuit to lead the Catholic Church. Throughout his papacy, he emphasised the importance of caring for the poor, protecting the environment, and building bridges between communities.
Pope Francis reminded us all of the power of kindness, forgiveness, and love. He will be remembered not only as a religious leader, but as a global symbol of peace and hope.
As we reflect on his life and legacy, let us honor his message by striving to be more understanding, compassionate, and united in our daily lives. We had a special liturgy of Remembrance for Pope Francis - a kind heart, a brave voice, and a friend to all.
May he rest in peace.

Term 2 is Winter Uniform. Please feel free to help yourself to any stock downstairs. Please note, every child in the school is expected to wear a tie. As our whole school photography is coming up next Monday (5th May) and Tuesday (6th May), our students needs to be wearing their complete school winter uniform.
If you have any queries around your child's learning or behaviour please reach out to your child's teacher.
I will leave you with a quote I came across from Pope Francis,
“If you’ve fought, do not let the day end without making peace with your family … Just by a small gesture, a little something, and harmony within your family will be restored ... But don’t let the sun go down on your family without having made your peace … It’s not easy, but you have to do it. It will help to make life so much more beautiful.”
Have a wonderful week.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Attendance continues to be a top priority for the government, which has set a target of 80% of students attending school more than 90% of the term by 2030. To achieve this, schools need to aspire to reach an average daily attendance rate above 94%.
The last week of Term 1, 7th-11th April, we were 90.56%.

We are after a few spot prizes - anything considered. If you have any food connections where we could get vouchers that would also be appreciated or you may have something at home that is brand new and no use to you, that could be a good spot prize.
