Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update From Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Can you believe it, term 1 2025 is just about done? It really is hard to believe. We have had an incredibly busy and rewarding term. As a staff, we have appreciated all the support you have given us. We are also delighted with the attitude and commitment to learning shown by our students. Resilience in action.
We had a fantastic day of Mathematical Learning as part of the new curriculum. St Teresa's, Cardinal McKeefry and St Benedict's staff joined together for the day with a MOE-approved facilitator. Our staff started to unpack the modifications that will be required to fully implement the new Mathematics curriculum. Our staff will be teaching many concepts a lot earlier than the previous curriculum has suggested. Many concepts that we were teaching at Years 6 and 7 will now be taught at Years 3 and 4. There is going to be an emphasis on students understanding a large bank of mathematical vocab at each year at school. There are going to be many changes in the way we teach mathematics but I am confident that we have the staff and the necessary development to deliver.
This Friday, 11th April will be the last day for Term 1.
Just a heads up.
From next term, we will be reporting our attendance to the Ministry of Education using the STAR model. Please do not be offended if you receive a text, phone call, or email from us. We may even follow up with you face-to-face regarding your child's attendance. If you know your child is going to be away, please let us know so we can load it into our system.
Easter blessings to you all. Please take some time during the holiday period to rest and relax. We look forward to seeing you all on Monday, 28th April at 8:40 a.m. start.
Have a great break and we will see you next term.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Attendance continues to be a top priority for the government, which has set a target of 80% of students attending school more than 90% of the term by 2030. To achieve this, schools need to aspire to reach an average daily attendance rate above 94%.
Last week, 31st March to 3 April, we were 91.90%.
We have extended the consultation time to this Friday, 11th April. Please give us feedback so we can reflect and improve our curriculum delivery - 2025 Community Consultation. Thank you.
The Easter raffle raised just over $2,000.00 for our outside environment.
We so appreciate all the effort you went to, to sell tickets.
No Access To Our Bottom Playground
Our bottom playground will not be accessible by the school as the pavers are getting removed and new concrete will be layered.
Information On Cryptosporidium (Crypto, Type of Tummy Bug) In Our Communities
Please find below an 'update' from Health New Zealand’s National Public Health Service - Wellington region, to staff of schools and ECECs on the increase in numbers of Cryptosporidium (Crypto) in our communities. An initial health notice was sent on 18 March 2025, intended for Hutt Valley primary and intermediate schools and ECEs only - we were asked by the Public Health Service not to publish this initial health notice. Below is the first communication that we have been asked to share with our parent community.
Sausage Sizzle Fundariaser Tomorrow
Our senior students are having a fundraiser tomorrow to raise money for the Year 8 Yearbook.
School Photography On Monday (5th May) And Tuesday (6th May)
A heads up for our upcoming school photography scheduled on Monday, 5th May and Tuesday, 6th May. The students must be dressed in their full school winter uniform. As soon as the schedule is finalised, we will post it into the newsletter in Term 2. Additionally, we will inform you on how to order your child's photos from Inspire Photography.
Our School Cross Country Is On Tuesday (13th May)
Encourage your child to train over the term break for our school cross country on Tuesday, 13th May.
We are after a small team of people to help out at a few fundraising events. If you are happy to help out, please email: fundraising@sacred-heart.school.nz.
We are after a few spot prizes - anything considered. If you have any food connections where we could get vouchers that would also be appreciated or you may have something at home that is brand new and no use to you, that could be a good spot prize.
Many thanks.
