Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update From Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
I hope you are having a wonderful week. The term seems to be flying away. Thank you for all the support you give us.
Last week, we hosted Nicky and Jo from the Education Review Office team. Our students welcomed our visitors in a way that made our staff incredibly proud. It was a great opportunity to share the many initiatives our school has been involved in and what we offer our students. I also want to acknowledge how amazing our students have been while our teachers have been out of the school learning about structured literacy. We had relievers in the school, and everything just went as clockwork.
Lord, help me to see your presence in all things and to grow closer to you through prayer, and acts of service, so that I may be a more faithful follower of your Son, Jesus."
This week, I have had the privilege of being with my Catholic Principal colleagues exploring the narratives of Parihaka up in Taranaki. What a special sacred place Parihaka is.
View from Parihaka
Thank you for all that you do for our school.
Have a wonderful week.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Attendance continues to be a top priority for the government, which has set a target of 80% of students attending school more than 90% of the term by 2030. To achieve this, schools need to aspire to reach an average daily attendance rate above 94%.
Last week, 17th-21st of March, we were 86.07%.
Hill Street Pedestrian Crossing
Please use the crossing and role model using the pedestrian crossing on Hill Street.
Special thanks to our awesome road patrollers - you do a stirling job.
Please give us feedback so we can reflect and improve our curriculum delivery - 2025 Community Consultation. Thank you.
At the Grip Leadership Conference last week, we learnt about being responsible and fun leaders. They gave us ideas on how we could lead our own school and make our school a better place. I really enjoyed the Conference because we got to share our ideas with students from other schools and learn new ideas from them. - Janiva (Room 8)
Junior Syndicate Trip To The Home Of Compassion
Yesterday, the Junior Syndicate spent the day at the Home of Compassion learning about Suzanne Aubert. They had a great time completing some well-planned activities. Jo White told Suzanne's story using props, and the students created a pocket prayer craft with Anya and solved a scavenger hunt in Suzanne Aubert's display rooms. Thanks to all the parents who helped us have a peaceful and thought-provoking day.
Kotahitanga Day On (Wednesday) 2nd April
Kotahitanga Day on 2nd April is a chance for all of our students to share and celebrate their cultures. Students can wear clothing that reflects their culture and need to bring a small plate of food for a shared morning tea of food from their culture. They can also bring an item to add to our cultural display; please name and include some information about their item.
SUMMER FOOTBALL:
Sacred Heart Strikers played Cardinal McKeefery in the playoff for third and fourth. Despite an early goal by Cardinal McKeefry it was an evenly balanced game and 1-0 at half time. Cardinal McKeefry scored a second in second half to lead 2-0, but Sacred Heart kept battling hitting the post. In the dying seconds Manaaki scored and the game finished 2-1 to Cardinal McKeefery. A great game to finish the season.

INDOOR CRICKET TEAM - WINTER SEASON:
We are looking to put together a team of middles to play in the World Series cricket running Saturday afternoons from 3rd May to Saturday, 13th September 2025.
Indoor Cricket is a fantastic sport and many of New Zealand's Black Caps, White Ferns and First Class Cricketers have used the indoor game to develop their outdoor skills. You can do this too by getting your friends or team mates together to form a 6-a-side team. The competition is played on Saturday afternoons at Hutt Indoor Sports. This will also help kids stay in touch with the game over the winter season.

The WCC is running a Futsal Tournament in Term 2 for Years 1-4. It will be at Karori Recreation Centre from 3.30 PM to 5:00 PM on Wednesdays for Years 1-2 and Thursday for Years 3-4. We will need parents to manage the teams. If you are interested, fill out the Google Form.
We are excited to announce we are hosting another Wellington Phoenix Experience camp in Wellington at Fraser Park during the April School holidays. This camp will take place on the 17th & 18th of April between 9.00 PM and 3.00 PM and is targeted for children born between 2011 – 2016.
Our Experience Camps provide a unique opportunity for us to engage with young football enthusiasts from diverse communities across New Zealand. It serves as a platform for local talents to interact with Wellington Phoenix Staff, offering from a glimpse into the life of New Zealand’s sole professional football academy. Moreover, it marks the initial step in our talent identification process. Promising players identified during these camps may be invited to join a Discovery Camp later in the year. Additionally, we will be conducting coaching and parent workshops aimed at fostering growth within football communities and bridging the gap between grassroots and academy-level football.
