Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update From Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
This week we have the Education Review Office with us at school. Our staff have enjoyed sharing the curriculum we deliver to our students.
Our middle and senior teachers have been out learning about structured literacy, and we are very grateful to the team that has made learning seamless for all of our students.
Last week, I was very fortunate to be a part of the Tautai o le Moana group of Principals. This professional learning PLD journey emphasises the importance of family, community involvement, and student agency – ensuring that every learner has the tools and support they need to navigate their path to success.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Attendance continues to be a top priority for the government, which has set a target of 80% of students attending school more than 90% of the term by 2030. To achieve this, schools need to aspire to reach an average daily attendance rate above 94%.
Last week, 10th-14th of March, we were 91.36%.
Please see below a response from the Vicar of Education Kelly Ross.

Encouraging your community into teaching – Education Workforce
Thank you very much for your support with our St Patrick's Day, wear something green/gold and bring a gold coin donation to the Parish - $206.00 was raised.
It was a sea of green as we raised money for the parish.
Last week, our Mandarin Language Assistant, Miko, visited classes to teach us how to make a traditional Japanese decoration. It took lots of focus and perseverance and ākonga worked together to make them. As you can see, Room 9 were proud of their work!
Junior Visit Home Of Compassion On Tuesday (25th March)
Kotahitanga Day On (Wednesday) 2nd April
Kotahitanga Day on 2nd April is a chance for all of our students to share and celebrate their cultures. Students can wear clothing that reflects their culture and need to bring a small plate of food for a shared morning tea of food from their culture. They can also bring an item to add to our cultural display; please name and include some information about their item.
Students are to wear studs in their ears if they wear earrings.
If a child is wearing "dangly earrings", they will be asked to remove them and they will be placed in an envelope and sent home.
This is a health and safety issue.
Thank you.
Aotearoa Amigos put in a valiant effort on the field last Friday, despite ultimately losing to the Funky Monkeys. Each player gave it their all, displaying excellent teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the match. Player of the day goes to Fintan, Room 7, for his outstanding determination and skill on the pitch. We're proud of the entire team for their hard work and dedication, and we look forward to seeing them bounce back in their next match!
