Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update From Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Thank you all for your support with the delivery of our curriculum. The senior syndicate had an amazing Education Outside The Classroom (EOTC) week and we are so grateful for our amazing whānau who all took time out of their schedule to support us with our range of activities. You really can't beat Wellington on a good day. Here is a photo of the children waiting to board the ferry heading to Matiu Somes Island (trips and activities cover this).
Every year at the start of term 1, I carry out a detailed observation of every teacher in action. Part of the observation includes looking at how teachers know their learners and how they connect with them. I also look carefully at the strategies teachers employ for progress to occur. I also validate my observations by getting the voices of students. I am half way through my observations and I can say that the teachers at our school are very special. They care about the students in their care and they think deeply about what they are teaching and why.
Thank you for all you do for our school. It is so appreciated. Thank you for your donations that enable us to provide a rich curriculum for our fabulous students.
Have a wonderful week. Please reach out to your child's classroom teacher if you have any concerns.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Attendance continues to be a top priority for the government, which has set a target of 80% of students attending school more than 90% of the term by 2030. To achieve this, schools need to aspire to reach an average daily attendance rate above 94%.
Last week, 17th-21st of February we were 89.32%.
Sacred Heart Cathedral School Board Casual Vacancy For A Parent Representative
A casual vacancy has occurred on the school board for an elected parent representative. The board has decided to fill the vacancy by selection.

New Families To Sacred Heart Cathedral School
If you are new to Sacred Heart Cathedral School and would like the name of a parent who can mentor you on all things related to our school please reach out to the office - office@sacred-heart.school.nz.
Please make sure your child has arrangements after school.
Please note there is no supervision in the playground after school and the expectation is that students wait on the green terraced area by the gate or if it is wet, outside Room 2.
Thank you for your attention to this - please reach out if you need any support after school.
Seniors BBQ Night this evening at 5:00-6:00 PM:
Seniors will have a fun night here at school this evening starting at 5:00 PM and whānau will have the opportunity to meet each other.
Senior Syndicate EOTC Week:
Middles at Te Papa Trip:
On Monday, the Middle Syndicate were out and about again. This time, we went to Te Papa to support our Inquiry learning. This term 'Belonging' is our Inquiry focus and we will be looking at the timeline of major migration to Aotearoa NZ.
The classes rotated through an education session investigating the 'Passports' exhibition (looking at more recent arrivals to Aotearoa, New Zealand) and the push/pull factors for migration. The other two classes got to explore all the fun and interactive education experiences at Te Papa.
Again, another big ngā mihi to the parents who came with us!
Middles at He Tohu Visit:
On Wednesday, 19th February, and Thursday, 20th February, the Middle Syndicate classes visited the National Library to experience the He Tohu exhibition. During our visit, we had the opportunity to view three key documents that have shaped New Zealand: The Declaration of Independence - He Whakaputanga, The Treaty of Waitangi - te Tiriti o Waitangi, and the Women's Suffrage Petition. Our facilitators provided valuable insights into the significance of these documents in shaping contemporary Aotearoa, New Zealand.
A huge ngā mihi to the parents and caregivers who came to support us on these days.

Junior Syndicate Visits To He Tohu On 11th & 12th March:
The Junior Syndicate are visiting the He Tohu exhibition to learn about Te Tiriti o Waitangi. The dates and times are Room 1 on 11th March at 10:00 AM, Room 2 on 11th March at 1:00 PM and Room 3 on 12th March at 1:00 PM. We will need helpers for the success of the day. We will leave school at 9:15 AM and return at 2:30 PM. We will send a Google Form out in next week's newsletter.
