Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Parish School Mass On Sunday (8th December)
Our School Mass on Sunday, 8th December is the Feast of Immaculate Conception. It will be filmed and aired on Shine TV on Christmas Day. The permission forms that were signed on enrolment related to capturing a student’s image will apply to this recording. It is an exciting opportunity to celebrate our school community and Cathedral, and I am sure the Mass will bring joy to many who are watching from home on Christmas Day.
Our senior students will be running activities and fun games.
The Parish will also have a car boot sale.
Weekly Update From Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Thank you for all your support yesterday and for letting us know if your child was coming to school, attending the hikoi or learning from home. So appreciated. The hikoi was certainly an event of national and cultural importance. To unite so many people from Cape Reinga in the far North to Bluff in the deep South is an example of a well-organised event.
Welcome to Cassandra (Room 1) who started school on Monday. You are going to love your time at Sacred Heart Cathedral School.
We had a stunning Mihi Whakatau to welcome new families to our school on Monday.
Farewell to Lingchu, Our Mandarin Language Assistant will return to China at the end of the month. Lingchu has been so amazing teaching our students Mandarin and also about Chinese culture and history. We presented Lingchu a stunning Ponamu on behalf of the school community.

Well done to our House Captains who shared our new house boards with our tamariki at the assembly.
Our Juniors were enjoying the beautiful sunshine yesterday, doing PE at the playground.

I will leave you with a beautiful prayer Otis (Room 6) shared with us all at the special assembly for Ling Chu.
"Father in heaven, we thank you for the amazing beautiful world you created. Help us to care for it. We thank you for the wonderful , unique people you have made us to be. Help us to care for one another.
We thank you for the incredible, tasty foods you have invented. Help us to remember and care for those who are hungry.
We thank you for the inspiring stories and teaching in the Bible. Please help us to share this good news news with people everywhere. Amen."
Have a great week and take care of yourselves.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

We have headlice across the school. Please check your child's hair and treat accordingly.
Scratching, scratch marks or a rash can be a sign that your tamariki has head lice. But not all tamariki complain of itchy heads. The main sign of head lice is being able to see the insects or nits by checking closely for them.
If you have head lice:
Tamariki with live lice should stay away from kura or school until treatment has started.
Always do a second treatment 7 to 10 days after the first. This is to kill any head lice that may have hatched after the first treatment.
Wet combing:
- Wet the hair and scalp with conditioner (this makes it easier to see the head lice).
- Use a fine-toothed comb to check for head lice and eggs and to comb them out. It is best to use a fine metal comb, or a special head lice comb you can get from a pharmacy.
- Comb the full length of the hair, from the scalp to the ends. Work your way around the head so that you have combed all of the hair.
- If you see any head lice or eggs, clean the comb by wiping it on a tissue or a paper towel, or rinse the comb before you use it again.
- After you have combed all of the hair, rinse out the conditioner.
- If you find lice or eggs, repeat these steps every day if you can manage it, but at least every 2 to 3 days. You can stop when you find no lice or eggs for 3 days in a row.
Check the hair of everyone in the house twice a week for the next 2 weeks to make sure everyone stays clear.
Stop head lice from spreading:
- Brush hair every day. This may help kill or injure head lice and stop them from laying eggs.
- Do not share brushes, combs, headbands, ribbons, hairclips, helmets or hats - anything that touches someone’s head.
- Have short hair or wear long hair in a ponytail to make it less likely you will catch head lice.
- Tamariki should hang their clothes on their own hook at school.
- Tamariki should keep their clothes apart from other children’s in swimming or sport changing rooms.
- If you do get head lice in your whānau, everyone that has them should be treated at the same time.
Let the school and any other close friends know that your tamariki have been treated for head lice.
