Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
Welcome to Term 3. I hope you have all had an enjoyable break and you are all recharged for the term ahead. It was certainly the term break where New Zealand Sport was a real feature. How inspirational for our students to see all those attributes that our Silver Ferns and Black Caps demonstrated for us all. Working as a team, grit, determination and how putting effort and hard work really does pay off.
A warm welcome to Andrea Spink who is teaching in Room 5 while Miss Smyth is in Ireland. Welcome Andrea! I am sure you will really enjoy being with the wonderful students in Room 5 and our staff are enjoying your energy and humour in our staffroom.
A special welcome to Liam, who started school on Monday in Room 1. We know you are going to love your time at Sacred Heart Cathedral School.
Special thanks to Steve Cutting who organised a Parents and Friends Lion King movie fundraiser for our school on the the last day of the term break. If you haven't seen The Lion King, it is a fantastic movie with wonderful themes, amazing animation and stunning music.
Please keep Adrienne Wood and her family in your prayers. Life provided another challenge to Adrienne and Dean on the first day of the holidays when their youngest daughter Phoebe (who was a student here at Sacred Heart Cathedral School last year) suffered a cardiac arrest. Phoebe is recovering well and is continuing to have a series of medical tests. Adrienne still has a full pantry from last term she has asked families to support the Ronald Mc Donald House Pantry or she has a "Give a little page" - https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/courtneys-heart-transplant
Thanking you in advance for your love and support for this very special family.
Please keep your eye on our school calendar and school app as we have had to change a few dates. Unfortunately, St. Mary's College have had to close their gymnasium and as a result the hall is not always available for us to use as a school or gather as a community for liturgies and school events. We are so appreciative to St. Mary's College for always trying to accommodate us.
"He aroha whakato, he aroha puta mai."
'If kindness is sown, then kindness you shall receive.'
Arohanui,

Principal, Sacred Heart Cathedral School
Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
A Reflection from Father James
My first bicycle was a present on my tenth birthday. I was able to ride it to school that same day as I had already learned on a cousin’s bike. On the way home I looked behind to admire the shiny back wheel and the chain pulling it along and rode into a parked van. The front part of my new bike was buckled.
I remember the horror and the disappointment – and am reminded whenever the gospel at Mass is Jesus’ image of the farmer ploughing the field – knowing not to take his hand off the plough to prevent forming a crooked furrow that would make planting difficult. [Lk 9:51-62]
Jesus tells those who follow him not to look back. The command to love your neighbour as yourself is the plough you take hold of when you take his path. With focus on neighbour you will always be moving forward, following the one who came not to be served but to serve, who was always there for others – who felt their fear, suffered their pain, rejoiced in their success and loved them for themselves. Once you take that path don’t look back!
