Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
What a wonderful week we had celebrating the upcoming wedding of Miss Smyth with a truely Irish assembly, Matariki and the Feast of the Sacred Heart. Thank you to families who supported us last week. Special thanks to Parents and Friends who assisted Cardinal John with a Stewardship workshop by providing breakfast for participants and to our netball families who completed a range of extra tasks as part of duty week. Much appreciated.
I enjoyed catching up with many families during our Learning Conversations. I hope you found the opportunity helpful to revisit goals with your child's teacher and are clear about the next learning steps and required actions.
Special thanks to Juliet Smith who has helped us out with Reading Recovery and literacy instruction over the past two terms. We really appreciate all you have done for our school.
Thank you for the way you have supported our school throughout the term. It has been a very productive and fruitful term of learning. Enjoy the two week holiday break with your family and I look forward to seeing you all next term.
I am writing this newsletter from the New Zealnd Principals' Conference in Auckland. I am thoroughly enjoying listening to key note speakers and extending my learning.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt
Principal
Sacred Heart Cathedral School

Last Friday we celebrated our school feast day. We had liturgies in our classrooms, followed by co operative games, and then in the afternoon a creative sharing assembly.
The day highlighted just how special it is to be a part of our wonderful school. The following photos capture our Feast Day in action.

We are participating in mufti mania next Friday to raise funds for Doputz Primary School in Bougainville, to help them access water, new toilets, repair classrooms and get new resources. This is part of the work Caritas are doing. A gold coin would be much appreciated.
Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Code Club was a weekly after school activity every Tuesday. Our task was to code/make a fully functional animation or game! Everyone was either on Scratch or other various programmes and with the help of Pravin and Janet (from Victoria University), we were to achieve our goal by Week 9. It was a lot of fun and hard work and by Week 9 we were presenting. Our top three games/animation developers won prizes! And they went home with packs from Google!
Our winners were: Fatimai Rm 10, Eva Rm 10 and Tyler Rm 8. And we plan to continue to do code club for the next 2 terms! We are all excited to continue our learning of computer science!
