Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
I hope the week is going well for you all.
Yesterday, I received the resignation of Ann Stephen from full-time work. Ann has made the most incredible contribution over the past 6 years at our school (especially in the area of sport and recreation). Next year, Ann will work part-time for us supporting learners.
Thank you for parking in the surrounding streets and walking up to school. Keeping our students and staff safe is our priority.
Today and tomorrow, I am in Auckland at Standing strong together - a well-being event. I am presenting about how our school coped during the February/March occupation at Parliament grounds. I look forward to sharing new ideas with our staff on my return.
Thanks again for the way you have supported our school and parish community.
Your generosity helps others.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Parent Work Shop on Building Resilience - Thursday (31st August) at 5pm in the Library
Dr. Chris Bowden will present a workshop for our school community on Building Resilience in our Young People.
This is a practical session for parents to help children bounce back from setbacks.
Chris wears many hats. He is currently a lecturer at Victoria University at the School of Education. He also advises a wide range of groups including Mental Health Foundation, and Skylight Trust, and is part of the Youth Mortality Review team at Capital Coast Health.
We will have childcare available here at school should you wish to attend.
Our session will run from 5pm to 6pm on Thursday, 31st August.
Dr Chris Bowden highlights the importance of raising awareness of the prevalence of trauma and the way it affects adults and children in society. How they respond to trauma has a very significant influence on their health and well-being.
We don’t often make the connection between trauma and the symptoms of trauma. We focus on the outcomes of the trauma, but we don’t address the trauma. Chris will share his wisdom with us and help us to enable students to become more resilient.
If a child isn't getting enough sleep, it will affect their ability to learn.
Please be aware of some of the age restrictions of some social media.
I know that Grand Theft Auto is very violent game and the content will most certainly sexualise a child's vocabulary.
We have had a request from Karori West Normal School who provide Technology classes for our students. With New World's latest cookware sticker promotion, if you are not using these stickers, could you please collect and donate them to the school and we will pass it onto Karori West Normal School who would like to redeem the stickers for cookware for their cooking department. Please drop any stickers off at the school office. Thank you.
