Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
Our staff has all been teaching the significance of Waitangi Day. We had a beautiful liturgy on Friday to deepen our students' understanding. Te Tiriti is an important document for us all to understand ourselves as a nation. We are all called to reflect on Te Tiriti, our place here in Aotearoa, and what it means to be a New Zealander. Lord, we give thanks for the Aroha that New Zealanders have for one another and for the progress made in healing the things that divide us.
Kia tau ki a tātou katoa.
Te atawhai o tō tātou Ariki, a Ihu Karaiti
Me te aroha o te Atua
Me te whiwhingatahitanga ki te wairua tapu
May the grace, love and support of Jesus, the love of God, and unity through the Holy Spirit be with us all.
Please bless all of our children. Watch over them at home and school. When days are challenging grant them peace and relaxation. Guide them in mind, thoughts, and body. We thank you for our new school year of 2023 and we ask that you bless the students, whānau, and staff that make Sacred Heart Cathedral School such a wonderful place.
Looking forward to seeing you at Beach Day on Friday.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Welcome Liturgy - Thursday 9 February 1:00pm
We will be holding a Welcome Liturgy in our 'nest' - Te Kohanga, (outdoor classroom) at 1:00pm.
Parents are welcome to attend. There will be limited parking on our court from 1:00pm.
Beach Day on 10th February (Friday) at Oriental Bay - All Are Welcome
Our Beach Day has been a long-standing tradition to begin our school year, celebrate our school whānau, and meet fellow parents and teachers in a relaxed way. This will take place on Friday, 10th February at Freyberg beach on Oriental Parade next to Freyberg Pool. Please fill in your child's Junior
or Middle/Senior forms as we need lots of parent helpers as the trip involves water.
The Juniors and Room 5 will bus there and back, and the rest of the school will walk. All students will need to wear non-uniform, comfortable, named clothing and a sunhat. They will need their togs and a towel for swimming in the sea, and sandcastle-building toys. Please ensure everything is named. We ask that the children do not bring inflatables. Parents are most welcome to join us.
Wheels Night - Bring your own dinner on 17th February (Friday) from 5-7pm
Weather permitting students can bring their wheel items to school - like skates, rollerblades, scooters, skateboards and bikes.
Parking will be on Hill, Molesworth or Hawkestone Street.
Families are encouraged to bring their takeaway dinner to have at school.
You will also have an opportunity to take any second-hand uniform for your child.
17th February (Friday), on the court at school, 5pm - 7pm.

Capital BMX Club - HAVE A GO - bike riding sessions
With the support of the Wellington City Council, Capital BMX Club is trying to get more kids riding bikes. Central Wellington doesn’t have many safe spaces for riding. Capital BMX Club’s facilities in Northland offer the perfect environment for kids with a love for biking to develop their riding skills.
To help support this initiative, we would be grateful if you could include this flyer, promoting Capital BMX Club’s “HAVE A GO” bike riding sessions, into your school newsletters, website or community noticeboard for Term 1 of 2023.
See our flyer attached and below:
If you have any questions, or need any further information, please let me know.
Many thanks,
