Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
We really are part of something special at Sacred Heart Cathedral School. During tough and unexpected times being positive can take extra effort. Our school provides so many wonderful learning experiences that allow opportunities to positively influence others.
Congratulations to all students who were confirmed by Cardinal John last Sunday at the 10am Mass at St Teresa's Church in Karori. It was a beautiful Mass and another step forward in the faith journey. It was so wonderful to see the support whānau gave the candidates. I know the students researched their special Saint and that Saint becomes an important part of their Catholic identity.
On Tuesday evening, the Year 8 students, their families, and staff gathered together to celebrate our amazing group of leavers. This group of children have been real givers and have brought joy to many. We intend to savour them for the next few weeks as they enjoy their final days before heading off to college. Special thanks to our Year 8 families for their generous donations and time to organise such a splendid evening.
Congratulations to Therese Grevatt who has completed two years as a teacher. We are very blessed Therese to have you as a colleague and we look forward to supporting you with your career.
Thanks for everything you do for our school and all the support you give us. We keep needing to pay attention to the great stuff that surrounds us. I would have to say there is plenty of it at Sacred Heart Cathedral School.
Have a great week.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

The Junior Syndicate learnt about animal care at the Zoo last Thursday. The weather was kind to us, and we enjoyed gentle showers as we wandered around the zoo. The workshops taught us a lot about habitats, vet care and what animals need to be entertained. Thank you to the many parents who supported us by caring for small groups. We appreciated it!
The Leavers’ Dinner for Year 8 students and their families was held last night at the 1841 Function Room. It was such a memorable night for our amazing bunch of students who have done so much and well for the past years here at Sacred Heart.
A fun photo booth by Fotomirror - www.fotomirror.co.nz, creative and entertaining presentations, good food and lots of smiles capped the night.
Ms. Murfitt, Ms. Stephens, Ms. Grevatt and Mr. Sah gave heart-warming messages, congratulating everyone in their class. They acknowledged all their hard work and expressed how they loved interacting with such bright, cheerful, and caring people. They feel so proud and enjoyed all their contributions in their class and can’t wait to hear more about their future endeavours. The teachers wished them well and hope that they will continue to be passionate and happy whilst achieving their dreams.
The parents also had a chance to interact and get to know each other. Everyone had a blast and went home in good spirits! We are blessed to have a wonderful SH community.
Together with your families, we wish all of you, our dear Year 8 students wonderful years ahead. Blessings for the future be upon you!

To all our parents/caregivers,
Sacred Heart Cathedral School staff would like to thank you for your assistance and support during the year. We warmly invite you to our morning tea at 10.30am on Monday, 12th December in the school library, upstairs.
RSVP to office@sacred-heart.school.nz by Wednesday, 7th December 2022.
Can all netball uniforms be returned to the office (including any from previous seasons that haven't yet been returned)? We want to see what we have and what we need to purchase before the 2023 netball season is upon us. Thank you very much.
We do have COVID in our school community. Some staff will be wearing masks and there is still quite a number of staff who haven't had COVID yet.
We will continue to ensure that students adhere to good hygiene practices. If your child is sick, they will need to stay at home.
A reminder of the current protocol for household contacts:
If you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 as a household or close contact you no longer need to isolate, but there are testing recommendations for household contacts, and it is recommended that you wear a mask when leaving home.
Household contacts should test daily for five days with a rapid antigen test (RAT) from the day the first person in your household receives a positive result for COVID-19. If any of your results are positive, then you must isolate for seven days and follow public health advice.
Last week, the Department of Internal Affairs launched a new section to the Keep it Real Online website to provide information and resources to help educators/ families keep young people safe online. The resources have been collated from a wide range of government, NGO and community groups working in the online safety space.
The new area of the website contains age-appropriate tools, information and advice from a number of organisations for Primary, Intermediate and Secondary School children. Our staff will use these tools to empower their students to stay safe online. The site also contains resources such as videos that can facilitate those more challenging conversations about online harms in the classroom and at home.
