Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
We are all loving this beautiful weather. It has lifted the spirits of us all.
Sun hats need to be worn at school to protect the students from the harsh sun. These can be purchased through the school office for $15.00.
If you have any concerns regarding your child's learning at school, please contact your child's teacher.
Congratulations to the Black Ferns! What an amazing achievement! Resilience and determination came to the forefront. So inspirational for us all.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Junior Zoo Trip Tomorrow (17th November)
Tomorrow is the Junior Syndicate Zoo trip. We leave school at 9.30am and return by 2pm.
Please ensure your child wears comfortable clothing and shoes for walking (not school uniform).
They must have a sunhat and jacket or coat. They also need their lunch and a drink bottle in their backpack.
Thank you for working with us and improving punctuality in the morning. What a difference it makes when a child is at school by 8.40am when the morning bell rings.
- If students have one week off every term, over ten years they will miss a year of school.
- Being at school everyday matters because of the sequential nature of learning, especially in literacy and numeracy.
- By law, students must attend school.
- One of the highest predictors of education success is attendance levels at school.
Every parent wants their children to be successful in learning and in life. Together, we can improve our attendance rates.
Our staff are very committed to ensuring that school programmes are stimulating, relevant, and motivating while having fun and opportunities to socialise.
Please let us know if you need any masks or RATs.
COVID-19: Information for Household and Close Contacts
Last updated: 13 September 2022
If you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 as a household or close contact you no longer need to isolate, but there are testing recommendations for household contacts, and it is recommended that you wear a mask when leaving home.
Household contacts should test daily for five days with a rapid antigen test (RAT) from the day the first person in your household receives a positive result for COVID-19. If any of your results are positive, then you must isolate for seven days and follow public health advice.
We have a stunning new mural that highlights key aspects of our local curriculum here at Sacred Heart Cathedral School. Our Cathedral, Pipitea Marae, The Beehive combined with the bush and trees of Tinakori Hills which are all unique to our inner city location. The children were all engrossed watching Jesse our artist (friend of Mr and Mrs Grevatt) create, shade, texturise places of significance to our school.

Middle Syndicate End of Year Trip - 6th December
As a special End of Year Fun Day, the Middle Syndicate will be spending the day at Khandallah Park and Pool on the 6th of December. Please click on the form to know more about the details.
Last Thursday, three teams of students participated in science and technology challenges. We were so proud of the way the children approached the challenges. We could see many aspects of what a highly effective team consists of. Listening carefully, being patient with each other, having a go while being supported by other members of the team, being creative, standing back on pondering, acting on feedback, and reading instructions carefully. Special mention must go to the parent supporters who were so positive and encouraging the students all felt your presence and love.
Thank you also to Ann and Therese who prepared the students with a range of strategies and skills and ensured they were all confident and "competition ready".

Last Thursday, 10th November was a fantastic day for us all!
We all know that Well-being is the key to leading and living a wonderful life.
We gave our students lots of opportunities to dabble in a wide range of activities.
The way we live, work, and play contributes to our own well-being and the health of those in our lives.
So have a little look at what we did on Well-being Day 2022.
- Yoga - Thank you, Jess.
- Puppet making
- Physical activity

- Learnt Spanish - Thank you, Rocio.
- Rolled down the hill at Parliament

Get Ready to Train with SNAPPER on ALL LINES
Metlink is introducing Snapper as an electronic payment method across the Metlink rail network during November 2022. Paying train fares with Snapper is cheaper, faster and easier than using cash or paper tickets.
More information is available from the Snapper on Rail website or you can call Metlink’s Contact Centre on 0800 801 700.
Here’s what you need to know:
Tag on and tag off with Snapper
Paying with your Snapper card is easy, simply tag on and off for a cheaper, faster and easier trip. Snapper card readers are located near the entrances and exits at train stations.
Why do I need a Snapper card?
From 31st December 2022, we are saying ‘goodbye’ to paper tickets across the rail network. You will still be able to pay with cash for a single trip on board the train from 1st January 2023 but remember, paying with Snapper is at least 25% cheaper than the cash fare.
How do I get a Snapper card?
You might already have a Snapper card for your bus trips. A Total Mobility card or even some school student ID cards are Snapper cards in disguise – and are ready to use on the train. If you don’t have a Snapper card you can buy one from a Snapper retailer, the Snapper website, or at the ticket window at Wellington Station. Visit Snapper.co.nz to find your nearest option.
When you have a Snapper card, simply top up at a Snapper retailer, kiosk, at the ticket window at Wellington Railway Station or use the Snapper iOS app on i-phone 7/iOS13 and above, or the Android app with NFC smartphones.
One Snapper card per student
Every student will need their own Snapper card to pay for their own train fare. This means students won’t be able to tag on their friends. Unlike on bus, the platform card readers can only tag on one person at a time.
Transferring trains on the same line
Students may need to transfer trains on the same line to get to and from school. When paying with Snapper, follow these steps:
At your boarding station:
- Tag on at the station where you start your journey.
At your transfer station:
- Get off the train but DON’T tag off.
- Wait for the connecting train but DON’T tag on before you board.
At your destination station:
- Tag off.
