Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
We are absolutely loving the sunshine as we hurtle towards the end of 2022.
What an amazing week we have had. We were super proud of our athletes that represented our school yesterday. Mrs Stephen and Mr Grevatt were so proud of the achievements and perseverance of our school representatives.

Welcome to Sacred Heart Cathedral School, Logan who has just started school in Room 1. Logan, you are going to love your time at our school and will make lifelong friends. Logan, I hear that the Room 8 teacher is pretty fabulous. (Room 8 teacher is Logan's Dad - Mr Solia).
November is that special time of the year in which we particularly remember and pray for those who have passed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Kate Woodbury and her whānau as they mourn the loss of Kate's Dad, Graeme. The students in Kate's room made beautiful cards with gorgeous messages which were an absolute comfort to Kate in the weekend. May Graeme Rest in Peace.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Well-being Day Tomorrow - Non-Uniform Day
Tomorrow is Well-being Day. This is a non-uniform day for our students. You are most welcome to join us at any part of the day for our many and varied Well-being opportunities.
We will have a session in the library for whānau at 12.15 pm so you can support your own children when you as a whānau are faced with Well-being challenges. This session will be no longer than half an hour and a light lunch will be supplied.
Parking is available on the bottom court at St Mary's College accessed via Hawkestone Street.
Also, keep bringing your Well-being challenges in and put them in the kete. Be in for the prize draw.
Thanks for your ongoing support with attendance. It really matters. When your child is at school, their learning will flourish.
It is the expectation that all students put their cell phones into the cellphone bag in each classroom.
Not having to deal with the complexities of social media between 8.40am and 2.40pm is advantageous to students and teachers.
Get Ready to Train with SNAPPER on ALL LINES
Metlink is introducing Snapper as an electronic payment method across the Metlink rail network during November 2022. Paying train fares with Snapper is cheaper, faster and easier than using cash or paper tickets.
More information is available from the Snapper on Rail website or you can call Metlink’s Contact Centre on 0800 801 700.
Here’s what you need to know:
Tag on and tag off with Snapper
Paying with your Snapper card is easy, simply tag on and off for a cheaper, faster and easier trip. Snapper card readers are located near the entrances and exits at train stations.
Why do I need a Snapper card?
From 31st December 2022, we are saying ‘goodbye’ to paper tickets across the rail network. You will still be able to pay with cash for a single trip on board the train from 1st January 2023 but remember, paying with Snapper is at least 25% cheaper than the cash fare.
How do I get a Snapper card?
You might already have a Snapper card for your bus trips. A Total Mobility card or even some school student ID cards are Snapper cards in disguise – and are ready to use on the train. If you don’t have a Snapper card you can buy one from a Snapper retailer, the Snapper website, or at the ticket window at Wellington Station. Visit Snapper.co.nz to find your nearest option.
When you have a Snapper card, simply top up at a Snapper retailer, kiosk, at the ticket window at Wellington Railway Station or use the Snapper iOS app on i-phone 7/iOS13 and above, or the Android app with NFC smartphones.
One Snapper card per student
Every student will need their own Snapper card to pay for their own train fare. This means students won’t be able to tag on their friends. Unlike on bus, the platform card readers can only tag on one person at a time.
Transferring trains on the same line
Students may need to transfer trains on the same line to get to and from school. When paying with Snapper, follow these steps:
At your boarding station:
- Tag on at the station where you start your journey.
At your transfer station:
- Get off the train but DON’T tag off.
- Wait for the connecting train but DON’T tag on before you board.
At your destination station:
- Tag off.
Middles Swimming at the Aquatic Centre
Very impressive seeing the middle syndicate in action at the pool. So much confidence in the water.
We are pretty proud of the swimming opportunities we give our students at Sacred Heart Cathedral School. Learning to swim is a lifelong skill.

We had such a great time last Thursday as we had the longest morning tea. Special thanks to all our generous families who provided a wonderful array of food.
This initiative is part of our attendance and engagement strategy that we are doing to make sure our students are at school every day and on time.
Father Alliston and our whānau group led us all in a beautiful blessing of our outdoor classroom and have gifted us the beautiful name.
