Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Kia ora koutou e te whānau,
A warm welcome to Erika who started at our school today in Room 1. You are going to love your time here at Sacred Heart Cathedral School and will make life long friends.
We have lots of exciting activities for our students and the expectation is that your child attends school every day unless they are sick.
Punctuality is also important. Please remember school starts at 8.40am.
We have had a fabulous start to the term. Massive smiles from our tamariki. Teamwork and deep thinking from our budding scientists and engineers in the senior school as they prepare for EPro8 Challenge.
The middles and seniors focused on developing fundamental skills like balancing, running, jumping, catching, throwing, skipping, and leaping, up at Anderson Park. The Junior school has started their swimming programme and all are trying so hard to look after their belongings and get changed by themselves.
Thank you for all the support you give our school.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Emergency Contact Details and Permission Form
At the beginning of the year, we shifted our Emergency & Permission Form for your child to a google form and have asked you to complete the form for each of your child/children. This will make it simpler for us to refer to and for you to update your details in subsequent years. If you have not completed this form for your child, please click the link below. We appreciate the time that you have taken to complete this form for us. And for the parents/caregivers who have already filled in the form, thank you so much.
Te vaiaho o te Gagana Tokelau | Tokelau Language Week – Aho Hā 23 Oketopa – Aho Tōnai 29 Oketopa 2022
This year's theme for Te Vaiaho o te Gagana Tokelau – Tokelau Language Week is "Halahala ki vavau, kae ke mau ki pale o Tokelau" which means "To plan for the future is to understand the past."
The importance of sustaining and maintaining the Tokelau language with care is emphasised by the unique challenges that the island nation faces in the effects of climate change. There are 8,767 Tagata Tokelau in NZ (Stats, 2018). However, only 23% of the Tokelau population in Aotearoa speak the language. Therefore, more than ever, it is important that we plan for future generations and take action to revive and sustain our language. According to UNESCO, the language is classified as severely endangered. There are few opportunities to learn the language in the community or through formal education in Aotearoa New Zealand. However, Gagana Tokelau has recently been approved as a new NCEA-accredited subject.
the Middles were working very hard today in Pasifika club. Eden and Kaylani are superb tutors and explained the narrative behind the actions.
A big THANK YOU to the parents who responded to our request for summer dresses. We are still in need of summer dresses so if you have one sitting in your child's wardrobe that they have outgrown and would be happy to donate it to the school, please drop it off at the office.
Here is an example of Sacred Heart Cathedral School families helping each other.
We have so much second hand uniform. Please come in and help yourself.
It is so good to have spare uniform at home as it takes the pressure off making sure your child has the correct uniform for school.
Girls:
There are many brand new white blouses of all sizes.
We also have 2 Winter tunics that would fit Year 3 or 4.
We also have 3 Summer dresses that would fit an average Year 5 or 6.
Boys:
Big selection of grey shorts and grey shirts (mostly suitable for juniors and middles).
We also have several jerseys that would fit our Junior students.
Please come in and help yourself. The area is located beside Room 1.
These can be purchased from the office at $15.00 each. Please make payment via internet banking - 12-3140-0325505-00 with your child's name and "sch hat" as reference.
Another Christmas rolls round and so it goes, our 2022 Christmas season ‘no uniform day’ (Friday, 4th November) is upon us and with it our annual call out for Christmas hamper contributions.
On ‘no uniform day’ (next Friday), we ask all students to bring an item towards a hamper, which will be 'raffled' off. Best of all, you all get an opportunity to win one of these fantastic hampers.
On Monday 7 November, we will send home to each family a small book of five raffle tickets with each ticket worth $2.00 each. You can sell them to friends, family or you might choose to up your odds on winning one of these goodies by buying the lot. We ask that each family sends the ticket butts back to school by Monday, 5th December. Please deposit your payment for the raffle tickets to our Parents & Friends acount number 12-3140-0397242-00. Also, please include any unsold tickets in your returned envelope. We will draw the winning ticket the following week and announcing winners on Wednesday, 7th December.
Keeping it simple, we have chosen themes for each year for our hampers and have provided you with a few ideas to begin with below. We ask that all contributions be non-perishable and something you think you’d love to see in a hamper if you won.

Four weeks ago, Pierre, Room 6, was selected to play in the Wellington Samoa Under 11s Rugby Team. In the weekend, they played against a Pacific Island Rugby rep team made up of players from all over the country, and the amazing news is Pierre’s team won! Well done, Pierre!

3rd November (Tomorrow) - Longest Morning Tea
Our student council will be organising the Longest Morning Tea on Thursday 3rd November.
We would appreciate each family contributing (if your children are across syndicates just choose one to contribute to).
Juniors - fruit / vegetables
Middles - savoury
Seniors - sweet
Please avoid any items that contain nuts.
Items should be brought into school on a paper plate and given to the classroom teacher. Student councillors will be arranging the paper plates of food outside on the court if it's fine, or in the middle and senior corridors if it's wet. It will be the longest shared morning tea!
