Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
We welcome Jaynelle (Room 3) and Jaylen (Room 6) who started in our school last Thursday.
You are going to love your time at Sacred Heart Cathedral School and will make lifelong friends.
Thank you for all the beautiful messages, cards, and food that acknowledged the passing of my Dad on 5 August. Dad was a very proud Irish man and came to New Zealand in the early 1950s in search of a better way of life. Dad lived with us and has been very instrumental in supporting John and I with the upbringing of our own children. I am so grateful to the staff, children, and to the Board at Sacred Heart Cathedral School who have really supported me in my journey to give my Dad the very best care.
May he rest in peace. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
As a school, we have been reinforcing our expectations within the classroom and outside the classroom. Keeping all students safe is number one for us all. Our students are working very hard to look after each other.
Illness:
Thank you for your continued efforts to keep the transmission of COVID-19 and winter illnesses to a minimum.
Mask wearing when indoors continues to play an important role in minimising transmission of COVID-19 and winter illnesses. If your child is sick, they will need to stay at home until they are feeling better.
We have a great team here at Sacred Heart Cathedral School. If you have any concerns whatsoever about the progress your child is making. Please don't hesitate to contact us. Working in partnership together will strengthen learning and progress made.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Grandparents Liturgy on 25th August at 1.20pm St Mary's College Hall
We will be celebrating the wonderful influence Grandparents have in the lives of our students. There will be a liturgy for our Grandparents on 25th August at 1.20pm, St Mary's College Hall.
Parking will be available on the school court from 1pm.
Lord God almighty, bless our grandparents with long life, happiness, and health. May they remain constant in your love and be living signs of your presence to their children and grandchildren. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Room 3 led us in a very special Liturgy to mark the Feast of the Assumption.
Guidance from Ministry of Education
- If a child has been unwell with a respiratory illness other than COVID-19, they can return to school 24 hours after they have significantly improved and are behaving/eating normally.
- Following vomiting or diarrhoea, a child should be symptom free for 48 hours before they can return.
- If they still have a runny nose or dry cough without any other symptoms such as a fever, vomiting or diarrhoea, then they are unlikely to be infectious and can be considered well enough to attend school.
- In general, a doctor’s certificate or clearance should not have to be provided for a child to go back to school after being unwell.
