Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
A special welcome to Simone, who started at our school in Room 1 on Monday. You are going to have a wonderful time learning and meeting lifelong friends.
I hope you have had a great break over the past few weeks. Spending time with family, getting outdoors, doing physical activity and having a laugh are all excellent ways to enrich our lives.
The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education strongly recommend students in Year 4 and above to wear masks when indoors for the first 4 weeks of term 3. Wearing a mask is an extra layer of protection for us all. Wearing masks can reduce new cases of the virus by as much as 53%. It works alongside other measures including vaccination, good ventilation, staying home when sick, and hand washing and other hygiene measures, to protect our students and staff.
We know that some of our students are exempt from wearing a mask. If they have an exemption card or a letter from their health provider or we have agreed that mask-wearing is not practicable for them, we will support them to not wear a mask.
If your child is sick - they need to stay at home and follow the advice of Healthline. Please remember all students have hard copy packs that can be used at home. Middles and Seniors will have work posted in Google Classroom and Juniors Seesaw.
Thank you for your support in protecting our school community.
We thoroughly enjoyed having face-to-face catch-ups with many families at the end of last term to discuss learning progress to date and where to next. If you have any concerns about the progress your child has made or any challenges that are making learning tricky, please contact your child's teacher. As a staff, we really value the input from our families so we can strengthen and grow future learning.
Special thanks to the Whitaker Family who entered the competition "Hits Wellington Become A Saint For A Day" and won so the prize is our Basketball Saints are coming this Friday to visit our school. The weather forecast is looking good for Friday as well.
Please keep well. If we can do anything to support your child's learning, please reach out to us.
I have been a household contact this week and have kept well so I am looking forward to returning to school tomorrow morning.
Arohanui,
Bernadette Murfitt

Gospel Value for the Next Four Weeks
Our SHCS Gospel Value for the next four weeks is Generosity - Ngākaunui.
Giving and sharing with others, not expecting anything in return and being
generous with your time.
Years 6 – 8: Sharing your strengths with others, being generous with your time
for others and putting others needs before your own.
Netsafe is celebrating Net safety Week on the 25-29th of July. Net safety Week is an opportunity to raise awareness about the safe and positive use of technology.
During this year’s Net safety Week, Netsafe is co-hosting a parents' webinar with TikTok for the very first time. This webinar focuses on online challenges on social media, and aims to empower parents with knowledge of how young people engage with online challenges and how technology can be used to support online safety.
The session is also joined by Dr. Amanda Third, from Western Sydney University’s Young and Resilient Research Centre, a world-leading expert on online safety issues. TikTok’s Safety Guide for Guardians will be distributed at this event.

Olympic Soccer Club Teaching Our Students Soccer Skills
We are so lucky to have the Olympic Football Club teaching our students football skills.
The Football in Schools programme provides children with a fun and positive experience which uses football-based challenges and the joy of playing football as motivation for engaging participation. The programme covers manipulative skills, as well as agility, spatial awareness and of course teamwork. This is another example of how, we are emphasising and promoting physical activity as a lifelong journey while contributing to healthy wellbeing.

The Year 3 and 4 Sacred Heart Ninjas had their first game of playing basketball last night and won, 22-13 vs Owhiro Stars. They all played really well and tried hard and heaps of fun! They had also great support from the sidelines. Player of the day was awarded to Harley (Rm 3).

Our school is hosting NED'S Mindset Mission show on Tuesday, 2nd August for all students. An engaging performer takes our students on an interactive educational journey filled with storytelling, illusions, yo-yo tricks and humour. NED's message inspires students and promotes a growth mindset and academic growth in students.
