Dear God,
You come to us in Jesus who teaches us that the way to happiness is through our love for one another.
Watch over the teachers, students and families of Sacred Heart Cathedral School as we try to be faithful to this teaching.
Help us to be a welcoming and joyful community, so that others may come to know your love and peace.
We ask this through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Weekly Update from Bernadette Murfitt
Dear Parents/Caregivers,
We had the most beautiful evening celebrating the rising of Matariki. Even though it was a little chilly outside the singing, and light displays warmed everyone's hearts. Thank you to our wonderful families who prepared and cooked kai for us and made very tasty hot chocolates. It was really appreciated. Being able to see each other face to face after a very long time brought joy to us all. Please come in and look at our classrooms during the day they really are beautiful.
Tomorrow, we have our Matariki Market Day. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN SHOPPING BAG. The children don't have to wear uniform. It is our wear your own clothes day. There will be sausages, burgers, candy floss, books, sports equipment, games to buy and play, raffles including a scooter and skateboard. In terms of money quantities, coins and notes between $5 and $10 would be sufficient.
The Feast of the Sacred Heart, our school feast day, we will celebrate this on Wednesday, 29th June with a liturgy at 9am,at St Mary's College Hall. All whanau are welcome. After the liturgy, the Juniors are off to Te Papa, Middles to ASB, and the Seniors to Carlucci Land.
The Feast of the Sacred Heart dates back to the 17th century and celebrates the love of Jesus. For us today, the love of Jesus is present and celebrated in many ways at our schools. Without love, we are empty vessels. We need the love of God to strengthen, renew, and guide us on our journey.
A Novena is a very old traditional Prayer. Here is an example that the children can say while remembering loved ones.
Reports will come home tomorrow. We are really delighted as a school with the progress our students are making and the amazing way they commit to learning. We are very grateful to our amazing staff who scaffold all students with their learning through what has been a very challenging two terms.Take care and enjoy this very special long weekend.
Arohanui,

Our SHCS Gospel Value till the end of the term is Joy/Harikoa.
In our classes, we will be exploring how joy is inside us all. It comes from an appreciation for the gifts each day brings. Joy comes when we do what we know is right, and when we laugh and see the humour in things. Joy is the inner sense that can carry us through the hard times even when we are feeling sad.
Years 1 – 5: Understand how fortunate they are to be part of a loving family
and community. Finding joy in helping others, the environment, and experiences. Aiming to bring joy into the lives of others through their actions and attitudes.
Years 6 – 8: Understanding that joy is intrinsic, not extrinsic. By being a positive, caring, honest individual and living a happy life they will feel joyful. Finding joy through worship. Bringing a joyful attitude to life and work.
Mānawa maiea te Mātahi o te tau — Celebrate the rising of the new year
Mānawa maiea te ariki o te rangi — Celebrate the rising of the lord of the heavens
Mānawa maiea te putanga o Matariki — Celebrate the rising of Matariki
Matariki holds many meanings throughout Aotearoa and across the world and learning about it gives us an opportunity to explore and strengthen our local identities. We aim to protect the deep history of Matariki, including local variations and narratives.
Celebrating Matariki together as a nation provides an opportunity for Māori language, culture and history to be more accessible to all New Zealanders both here and overseas. It supports us to reflect the value we place in our cultural heritage and helps develop our national identity.

Eat My Lunch Volunteer Drivers Needed
We’re a social enterprise on a mission to feed Kiwi kids at school who would otherwise go without.
Every lunch someone Buys, means we can Give a lunch to a Kiwi kid in need. It’s a little gesture that makes a big difference. We currently provide lunches for 12 schools around Wellington, including Sacred Heart Cathedral School, and we couldn’t do it without the help of our amazing volunteers. We make sandwiches from 6.45-8.30am from our Arthur Street kitchen and also get volunteer drivers to help us deliver to the schools from 9-11am.
Volunteering is such a great way to meet new friends and to give back to the community. If there are any parents who would like to support us by doing deliveries or sandwich making, we would love to meet you! For more information just email kiaora@eatmylunch.nz or sign up via our website: eatmylunch.nz.
And finally, just to let you know this is my last week at Eat My Lunch but we've set everything up so that things should run smoothly until we get a new coordinator. However, if you do have any problems please just email Joe or Chelsea at kiarora@eatmylunch.nz and they'll be able to help!
